HELP! Baby barely eating!

HI Mammas...

Ok, here is the scoop- my son will be 6 months old next week. He is EBF and has not started solids yet. He is 18 lbs and has been growing very well thus far.

The last 1.5 weeks his nursing pattern has changed-- and he is barely eating! He hasn't finished an entire breast--and often pops on and off. This is NOT just nursing though- but also when getting bottles of BM when I am at work (3 days per week). He is offered 2 4oz bottles of BM when I am gone and he has not been finishing them (sometimes leaving 2 oz. from each). This is NOT his norm. He also has green watery poop-- but I guess its not officially diahhrea-- since its never more then 3 or 4 times in 24 hours (and usually just once or twice). It isn't frothy green, btw.

Here is what I know-
1. Yes, he is teething. He popped his first 2 teeth about 7 weeks ago--and I think the uppers are coming soon. He didn't refuse to eat like this before those showed up though!

2. He is otherwise pretty happy. I mean, perhaps a little more cranky because he is trying to bite everything-- but he isn't lethargic or crying and crying or anything like that.

3. Yes, he is completely distracted when eating from breast or bottle. I nurse him in a quiet, dark room-- but it doesn't seem to help.

4. Yes, I offer the breast to him often-- but he is very clear when he doesn't want it because he will give me a sharp BITE after a few attemps!!!

So-- any thoughts? I am freaked that my milk supply will tank with this decrease in nursing volume--since its lasting more then a week. I also do not like that his stool has changed and is watery and green. I will call the pedi if it continues-- but I know she is going to tell me to hang tight unless he is showing signs of lethargy, increased crying, weight loss, etc...... and I guess I won't know about an weight loss until he goes in for his 6 month visit in 1.5 weeks.

How does he nurse at night? A lot of babies go through a teething-distractable stage around 4-7 months, but usually they will nurse at night or when sleepy without a problem. If that's the case, then try adding a dream feed or two at night on top of what her normally does, and if possible, nurse him to sleep for naps. If he's not nursing well EVER then that, combined with the green poop, would actually be enough for me to take a baby to the doctor. The green poop, though, could be a function of the distractable nursing - baby pops on, nurses for a minute, pops off - and you think, "oh, I'll just try the other boob" so he gets mostly "foremilk" rather than draining either breast, and hence the green poop.

As far as your supply goes - if you're working, and pumping at work, then you'll have a good idea of what it's like. As long as you're not getting dramatically less than normal, your supply is fine. At 6 months your supply should be pretty robust, so I wouldn't worry too much. And, when he starts nursing more, it'll pick up again.

Thank you for the feedback- in the last day or so his poop has returned to the more oragne/yellow color, so that is good news. I called his doc the other day and she said not to worry as long as he is not lethargic or extra cranky and that the change in bowel is probably due to excess saliva to teething.

What you pointed out was quite helpful- as he does nurse better at night and when he is a little groggy right after he WAKES from his nap (when I nurse him down he falls asleep after a few quick sucks!)...so I will continue to promote those times!

My "yield" seems the same as far as the output I am getting at work--so perhaps my supply is holding in, even with the weird changes....

His top gums are swollen and puffy, so I am thinking those little teeth are going to pop any day now!!!
