Vegans TTC in ~SUMMER~ 2010 - Page 3

Amandamom: Nothing like a honeymoon baby! Lol! I LOVED trying out veg restaurants when I traveled! How fun!! Let us know what your favorites are. I still remember the veg restaurant in London I dragged my dad across town to try when I was 19 (don't remember the name though - plus that was a LONG time ago).

Still waiting to O here. I think day 13 or 14. Dealing with a cranky, tantrumy toddler today - makes waiting a little longer for a new baby a little bit more ok. ;-)

Amandamom ~ The first thing I do before I go on vacation is check out HappyCow and see if there are good places to eat! That's usually how we pick where to go.

Waiting to O here, I thought I was going to and then I didn't get any good CF and temp didn't go up. So I'm wondering what's going on?

I felt bad yesterday because of my stupid ovaries and was craving ice cream... So I made a banana covered w/ peanut butter and then crunchy cereal then froze it. It was so freaking delicious!

Birdie & Cindy - Waiting to O is the worst! I wish you both clear, obvious ovulation signs.

I will definitely report back with all the delicious vegan eats in London and Dublin. I can't wait!

Thanks Amandamom! That's all I really want, to know that I ovulated. I know it will happen though (keeping positive).

There was the cutest baby at my workplace yesterday, and all I could think about was that I wanted one of my own. I've got baby fever bad!

Still waiting to O. My OPKs started to get a line but it hasn't gotten positive yet. My brother and his wife and 11 (!!) kids (blended family) came to stay for the past couple nights. My little girl had so much fun playing with her cousins...can't wait to give her a sibling. Not that she'll have much fun w/him or her in the beginning.

Not 1, but 2 veggie places opened in my town today! A vegetarian diner and vegan cinnamon bun shop! Mmmm can't wait to try them out.

Nice, you'll have to let us know how they are!

A vegan cinnamon bun shop? That sounds super yummy.

Hubby and I went to a cafe yesterday that serves both veg and meat options. It's so nice when they actually put 'vegan' on the menu.

And I have to say it...11 kids! Wow! That's wonderful you guys had so much fun.

Still waiting to O. Wondering if I am being too healthy now? Like my body needs some junk food and lack of exercise in order to get things going.

I'd like to join

Hi I'd like to join. I've been vegan three years and am on my secod cycle ttc. I'm currently waiting to O in the next couple of days.

I'll look into the mother cookbook.

I was going to ask if anyone was looking at particual diets, diet modification for ttc. I've been working on following Patric Holfords advice.

Welcome Silverbird!

No special diet here. Although it would be great if I could wean myself off some of the sugar I've been addicted to lately. And I don't drink much caffeine (maybe 2 coffees per week), but I decided to give that up today. I ate a mostly raw diet prior to getting prego and that all went out the window once the 1st trimester hit - veggies sounded disgusting!!!

AFM: I think I O'd yesterday! Yay! Now everybody keep their fingers crossed that my luteal phase will be long enough for a baby to implant, please!

Hi Silverbird! I just joined not too long ago I have never heard about Patric Holford but I am interested in finding out what a diet modification for ttc could be. I gave up all caffeine and finally got rid of the chocolate (I got some carob powder and it's yummy!) but I'm not doing anything else specifically. Well, I also keep my processed soy intake pretty low too because I don't think it's healthy.

Cindy ~ Yay! Fingers crossed for a lengthy luteal phase!

Welcome Silverbird! I'm always happy to see new faces on this board. I am also not following any particular diet. I just try to eat organic whole foods whenever possible.

Cindy - My fingers are crossed , and I'm sending out long-LP vibes your way! How's that cinnamon bun shop?

Birdie - Any signs of O? It's possible you're being too healthy, especially if you made drastic changes recently. I think it's an excellent excuse to spoil yourself a bit.

AFM, nothing new on the TTC front seeing as how we won't be trying again until September, but the wedding plans are moving along nicely. I've picked out my wedding "gown", which is very nontraditional. Since we're the only ones who will be there, we don't have to worry about what anyone else thinks, so DP and I have decided wear something comfotable, yet fun and dressy. I will definitely post pics for you all to see!

AmandaMom ~ It's great your wedding plans are coming together! What does your 'gown' look like? Are you going to carry flowers? I remember that when I eloped I carried my bouquet in a cooler w/ me on the plane. Definitely wouldn't be able to get away with that nowadays.

As for me being healthy...I have lost 35 lbs. in the past 7 months. I am now running 15ish miles a week although I would like to run more. I recently cut out processed sugar/sweeteners from my diet, and cook w/ no added oil or margarine. I tried to calculate my body fat percentage via sites I found w/ Google this morning but kept coming up w/ varying results. I read that having less that 20% body fat is not good for ovulation, but my BMI is in the normal range. I have been off bcp's for about a year and a half after being on them for 10 years, and it took a while for my cycle to come back. I have had anovulatory cycles in the past (like 3 I think?) but never in a row. Now I'm pretty sure I've had two anovulatory cycles in a row and I am not sure about this one. From charting, it looks like my body is trying to ovulate but doesn't. I'm not getting the EW fluid and my temp doesn't jump up. It's like my body doesn't want to ovulate just when my hubby and I decide it's baby time

At least my doctor says that we should get checked out if I am not pregnant after trying for 6 months. Very proactive.

Well, that was TMI but I guess that's what the Internet is for!

Birdie: You sound way healthy! Yay! Good for you! I too was on bc pills for over 10 yrs. I stopped them before meeting my DH though. Perhaps that is why I ended up prego before we got married. LOL. That said, it did take 6 months of not caring if we conceived before I actually did. My cycles were very regular but I didn't have a lot of EW either. I do think I read somewhere that the pill can cause that. I don't remember if you were thinking about taking vitex to regulate things?

Amanda: Need gown pics! Yay! Even though we eloped, I wanted the formal fancy dress and made DH wear a tux. :-)

Congratulations Somegirl!

birdie.lee: Patrick Holfords a fairly well know nutritonist in UK. His book isn't vegan but most of the advise is. Basically he recomends:

3 servings of protine
2 tbsp of flax seed/oil
3 servings of green leafy or root veg
3 fresh fruit
4 or more wholegrains
Avoid all the bad stuff: sugar, animal fat, white or refined foods
He also gives advise about suppliments

I guess many of you are already eating like this but I find it a good reminder.
Silverbird ~ Those recommendations sound a lot like what I am already eating! So that's good... I don't do flax oil but maybe I ought to look into it.

Somegirl ~ Love the photos! You look so happy I love the matching outfits.

Cindy ~ Yeah, I was thinking about taking vitex but I keep reading conflicting reports about that and other supplements concerning fertility. In fact, I quit taking a prenatal, B6, DHA, calcium, and went back to just an Emergen-C and a folic acid pill every day. I felt like I was doing too much supplementing, and that my starting of the vitamins coincided w/ my annovulatory cycles. So my body is trying to O for like the 3rd time this cycle. I had a huge emotional meltdown yesterday so maybe that means my hormones are going in the right direction? And I'm being nosy, but are you planning on testing soon since you o'd?

Amanda ~ How's the wedding/honeymoon planning going?
