Hello!

My name is Chandra. I've been a Mothering reader since my son was born in March 2008. I've read the forums before but this is the first time I've registered and contributed.

My husband and I live with our 2 year old son, daughter on the way, and two dogs in Monterey California.

I had a "hectic" hospital birth with my son and I'm hoping for a Hypnobabies birth for my daughter in a birth center. I had a fabulous doula for my first birth, but was not educated enough to understand what was going on. Now, I have a far greater knowledge of my options and plan to make different choices.

Thanks for reading, and nice to meet you!

Welcome! I'm still pretty new here myself. I joined when trying to conceive for a third time after 2 losses. I'm happy to say I'm 36 wks along now and doing great! I'm having a hospital birth with this first one, and I am very nervous about whether or not I will get the peaceful, natural birth I want. I've been on my tour and pre-registered, with the same nurse, and she goes on and on about their policies...

I hope this next birth for you is more peaceful!

Just wanted to add ... I had a hectic hospital birth with my first, as well. Also in hindsight I think I was waaaay undereducation - not for childbirth itself, but for the impact of L&D policies. #2 was a peaceful homebirth. I hope you have a peaceful birthcenter birth!!

Just wanted to mention that if you are feeling nervous about your birth at that hospital then that is probably your instinct telling you to run far away from that place. If they are going on and on about their policies during a simple hospital tour then imagine what kind of control freaks they may turn into when you're in labor land and needing time and space for your body to birth the way it needs to. Most hospitals expect women to labor on their backs. That makes labor and birth very painful and often stops progression. Once labor stops progressing most hospitals will then start pushing for a section. It is a cascade of interventions. Many hospitals do not respect a woman's birth plans once the woman is in labor and at their mercy. Maybe you already know all of this though. Know your options and follow your heart's desires. "Policies" and a body doing what it needs to do to birth a baby are two completely different worlds.
