Help me figure out my hip pain

I've done a bunch of searching but I can't tell if my pain is anything I've seen online, like arthritis, bursitis or other things. I'm getting very sharp pains in my left hip when walking. It feels like something is catching in a terribly painful way that about brings me to the ground. I can't tell if my hip is sometimes giving out on me or if it's just the sharp pain that makes me instantly get off of it. It doesn't hurt much otherwise, although I do have chronic pain issues that affect my hips. I've had this problem off and on for many years but this time it keeps going on. I've done some stretching exercises that don't seem to be helping. Any ideas?

Do you see a chiropractor? I get occasional sharp hip pain (aggravated by walking) that is alleviated by chiropractic adjustment.

I wish I could! No way to afford that right now.
