Do you wake your babe to nurse in the day?

Even though this is dd2, I'm still feeling like I'm not sure what to do about some things (maybe that's horomones too!). Anyways, dd2 is 9 days old and sleeps a ton during the day. She does alright at night but usually has a fussy period before we get the longer stretch of sleep. Anyways, my question is.....when she sleeps for long stretches in the day, should I wake her to nurse? My boobs are just dripping sometimes and I'm just wondering if it would help not only the nursing but the night time if we woke her to nurse more often in the day. I'm trying not to get all uptight and "scheduly" and try to just go with the flow so to speak. I'm resisting reading up on newborn sleep, etc but thought a few other mamas weighing in would help ease my mind.

I will only wake dd during the day I'd it's been 4 hours since she last ate. If my boobs hurt because they are getting too full I will pump. If you don't have a pump I would def wake her.

I am not waking J to feed at all. *But* the longest she has gone between feeds is 5.5hrs and we are not having any issues with weight gain, low supply etc. As long as there are no issues I am very comfortable with letting a baby self-regulate.

Don't tickle the balls of a sleeping lion.

I wake him occasionally day or night, but he goes back to sleep easily.

Hmm, I was wondering the same thing. My DS is gaining fine, but he is 8 days old and his poops are still half green, and my midwife told me to increase feedings, so I thought I would wake him to feed every couple of hours. He also often has a fussy period before getting the longer stretch of sleep at night so I thought perhaps it would be a good idea to up his feedings, especially because he easily sleeps 4 hours or more in a row at night, after the fussy period . Seems like the consensus is don't wake a sleeping baby!

I do but my son has been having weight gain issues. Lately he has been waking himself better but at the beginning, he would've slept right through several feedings. I could barely keep him awake just to feed for 5 minutes til recently. But if he is gaining fine and seems happy, I don't know if I'd bother.
