Kids' reaction to The Chipmunks on Ice

Hi everyone,I usually limit my kids' TV time to weekend nights only,and they usually watch nature documentaries with a few Disney movies in between. I took the kids,6 and 4,to watch the chipmunks on ice(they had seen it 3 times before),and they did NOT respond to the show like ALL the other kids were! The show had guest apperances by the backyardigans,dora and diego,and a few sesame street characters. The other kids were all screaming their little heads off,and shouting for the characters,like they were gods or something. they were like,"Elmo,Elmo,OMG,it's Elmo!!!!!!!!!!!!!",and my kids were so not interested!
Does anyone ever experince this? I was thinking it was because my kids aren't exposed much to the over consumeristic culture that others are.The don't have the Elmo pijamas,or Dora backpack,or any of the little trinkets that the kids there need to have to be accepted in the social circle.I live on a very small island where we don't pay too much attention to buying allthe tv character products,the island is also British,and they don't believe in that sort of thing as much as this bigger island where the show was.The bigger island is also US. Maybe this is why or maybe my kids are just boring...Joking!
They just get more excited over things in nature.Sometimes they'll be like, "Geez,did you see that toad!!!!!!OMG" lol.Anyone else experience this?

My ds is turning two next month, so I cant say I've experienced all that so far... but I have a three year old nephew and I am amazed at how obsessed he is with the commercialism aspect of things. (Disney Cars, Spider Man, Star Wars, Diego, etc etc.)

My nephew has no limit to his screen time.He is either in front of the tv watching Nick Jr... or he is online playing the games on Nick Jr or PBS kids.... it's ridiculous

When I took my nephew and my son to a toy store, I was blown away. My son grabbed some Thomas trains and was saying choo choo and could have cared less. My nephew did the whole panic attack style OMG ITS THOMAS type of deal. He was this way about everything he recognized. It's not like it was just with one tv show character he really enjoyed. I found it odd.

We also don't do any commercialized clothing, plates, sippy cups, on top of toys. I am hoping it stays that way for a really, really, really long time!
