allergen free organic moses basket mattress

I really want to try a moses basket this time. I got it for my second, but do to discomfort he was never off of me in a 24 hours period for more than 15 mins, until 4 months old.

Fingers crossed that this won't be the case this time.

I got rid of all off bedding for the moses basket.

So I want to make a cheap mattress for it, and a bit of a puddle pad/protection. I was thinking wool would be a good answer. The thing is the boys and I all have contact hives with pure wool.

Do you think it would be an issue hidden under a sheet?

Not sure what I should make the mattress out of. I'm about to do some searches. Any ideas would be appreciated.

hmm. thinking that a large cloth prefold will work almost as well. If the little baby super soaks through the entire thing, then I can wash it all.

I just realized I have a bunch of wool stuffing left over from my 7 year old's waldorf doll I made this winter. I could use a really old soft sheet as a cover to the futon/mattress.
Still not sure about using wool though. I will have the futon material and a removable sheet between the wool and the baby. Possibly a large prefold also.

Love the idea of using everything that I have at the house, especially for something I'm not even sure the baby will like.

I think using the wool you have with a prefold topper makes all kinds of sense, especially since you don't know yet where your babe will want to sleep!

I also think a soft old sweatshirt or cotton shirt of yours or something like that, on top of a folded blanket - something that smells like mama .
