Bruising easier when pregnant?

I've noticed that I'm bruising very easily lately. Even if it's not a big ugly purple bruise, if I bump into something, there's a sore, tender spot for days. And I bump into stuff a lot. I'm not the most graceful mama in the world. Is this normal? Is it one more weird part of being pregnant with twins? Or is in something to be concerned about?

I've noticed this with my pregnancies as well, just my legs.

I'm not sure if it is normal for twins or not (congrats on the twins!). However, I have a bruising issue as well. About a month ago, my blood test showed very low platelet count. I tested a week later and it was within normal (but on the low side). I saw a specialist (hematologist) on Thursday for a recheck and he said my platelet's are great now and that I look great! He did say that bruising can be a sign of low platelets but it can also be normal. We think that for me, it is just normal for this pregnancy.

If you are concerned, ask for a platelet count check to make sure your platelets are fine. However, it is probably normal and no concern! I wouldn't worry about it unless you have other bleeding signs (like lots of nosebleeds, bleeding in the mouth, cuts that bleed a lot, etc). Either way, I hope it goes away because bruising is no fun!

Part of being pregnant is increased blood volume! So yes, bruising easily is normal... with DS he actually bruised me a few times from his kicks!

My problem is actually tiny broken blood vessels under the skin more than the bleeding though... look like tiny red and purple spots all over my arms... but my doctor says both are 100% totally normal during pregnancy (did have blood tests to rule out other causes and was a bit anemic but had that taken care of and still having the spots/bruising)

(this is also the cause of bleeding gums for many women... and for some women, like myself, the cause of bloody noses early on in pregnancy)

No other bleeding other than when I throw up and when I first blow my nose in the morning. I think I really noticed it because we finally DTD and I'm feeling very bruised on the skin down there. But I guess the blood volume thing makes sense, and I know that's more of an issue with twins.

I've bruised easily with all my kiddos and I haven't had any blood problems. I think it can be normal. And a little blood in your nose or your gums can be normal. I had bleeding gums with my second, but not my first or this pregnancy. And I don't have any dental issues. I don't know about blood in throw-up though. I would mention that to your caregiver.

I think that being deficient in certain vitamins can make one more prone to bruising. I am normally quite prone to bruises- however since I've become pregnant I think due to eating well and tonnes of good quality supplements I barely bruise at all. Something to consider!

I'd try more vit c.... and I'd wonder about my iron levels

I can tell you, for some of us its neither vitamin c nor iron related as I already take 1000 - 2000 mg/day Vit. C (at my midwife & doctors suggestion, 1000 most days, 2000 when sick) and although I had low iron Ive had it under control for a few months now and still get it...

Oh, yeah, it definitely could just be pregnancy, but it can't hurt to look into other possibilities if you can get it to stop...

re: vit C I take more like 2000 min (not including my prenatal)- 6000 (or even more, like 10000) if I am feeling run down...
