How do I teach LO to get down when stuck standing?

My LO is at the stage of pulling up to stand using furniture, but not knowing how to get back down, so he starts to cry until I rescue him. He tries to reach down with one hand, but it's too far to go for him, so he won't let go.

I would like to teach him how to safely get back on the floor.

However, I don't know how to help position him to teach him how to get back on the floor.

I don't think you can really teach him. My DS is a bit of a daredevil so he would just let go and fall when he got tired of waiting for rescue. He cried a lot the first day but learned how to hold his stomach muscles so his head wouldn't hit the ground. Now, he has learned to flip to the side so that he lands on his hands for crawling.

At first, he would cry and wait for help like your LO. When he did that I would grab one hand to help him balance. Then I'd grab the other and place them on the floor for him. I don't know if you're doing that but maybe that will help him see how to do it on his own. Good luck!

yeah thats something you just cant teach. my ds did that FOR MONTHS. probably because i "saved" him each time, which i realize is my fault but i just couldnt help it

one day he will accidently get it ... and then he might accidently do it again another time ... then sometime afterwards, it will click!

I tried not to "save" her unless she was really upset, not just whining. (I'd just stay next to her and give her encouragement instead.) There's a reason our rear ends have padding! She figured out how to reach down and touch her toes was one hand and then gently fall backward in a matter of days. The day she figured it out, she did it 7 times in a row, practicing. Since then, she's learned to squat to get up and down.
