Horrible teething!

My daughter was the easiest teether. She would fuss a bit, but the teeth came in fast and nursing and teething tabs solved most of the issues.

My boy is awful! He is 7 months. This has been going on for a few days. He won't stop crying and is constantly whimpering. He thrashes around in bed. He sleeps about one hour at a time, doesn't want to nurse for comfort, crazy amounts of drool, fever, rubbing his face and ears, etc. I have tried teething tablets. Those don't seem to even touch it. I have given him 2 doses of Children's IBufrofen and I hate using it. We tried Camimilia as well. Nothing! He won't use chew rings and when we try and push with our fingers to create counter pressure, he freaks out.

I need some suggestions! Please help. I feel awful for him and honestly, it is testing my patience.

my suggestion would be to do what works... If thats ibuprofen, then so be it. If you were in so much pain you couldnt eat or sleep, would you suffer through or take some ibuprofen? I dont know any adult who would rather suffer than take the meds.

I know it sucks to have to drug your little, but if hes absolutely miserable otherwise... My guy is the same way, and he gets 2 doses of ibuprofen each night just so he'll sleep, and 2 doses of acetaminophen during the day if he needs them. He wont let me put my fingers in bis mouth and wont chew on cold toys and teething tabs do nothing. The only thing he likes is chewing on a cold corn cob, so i stick the cobs back in the fridge after DH and i eat the corn. Its a little messy, but it keeps him happy.

I agree about the pain. It is killing me to watch him suffer. The Ibuprofen doesn't seem to help either though! That's what is so hard. Would Tylenol be any better? Do you notice a difference in one of them working better?

I am 100% believe in the amber teething necklace. I had 4 horrible teethers then when I was pregnant with my daughter read about the necklace and decided to get her one. We never had an issue with teething with her so I chalked it up to an easy teether versus it was the necklace. Then she broke the necklace and a two weeks later she was getting her molars. Oh my gosh it was horrible. I ordered a necklace and had it shipped overnight. Since then we never had an issue again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to look for the amber necklace. Corn on the cob sounds like a good idea too! I'm really hoping he gets better soon. Poor little guy.

We have a very sad teether, who just cut a molar as her first tooth (I didn't even know this was possible, but if that hard sharp thing is not a tooth we have some even bigger problems). Teething rings didn't help for her because she couldn't get them back far enough. One thing that has helped her a bit: chunk of frozen breastmilk in a clean baby sock with a knot in the end.

Good luck. I feel for you and I'm right there with you.

You can use them both at the same time, they effect the body differently, Tylenol helps with pain and ibuprofen helps with inflammation. My DD was the WORST teether, she had pushy teeth that pushed and receded, pushed and receded.....she aso got a fever, diarreha, she was a mess. She normally was a very happy girl and that just about worked DH and I over. She teethed on and off for the good part of 2 years. She got her first teeth at 3.5 months and teethed on and off after that. Oddly the full moon made it worse, I believe with her it pulled on her teeth like the tide.

I wanted to be as natural as possible, but I never even heard of a teething necklace when she teethed, I probably would have bought one. DS is nothing like her, he is way easier, he'll be unhappy for a day or two, DD it was a month or 2. The eye teeth were the flippin worst, it took literally 3 or 4 months for those blasted things to come in, ugh.

I know some might frown, but have you considered the Nighttime Orajel? It is 10% instead of 7.5 for babies, my nephew was a horrible teether and my BIL suggested that, it seemed to help numb the pain a bit.

I wouldn't think twice to give my DD Ibuprofen to ease her pain. If she's hurting, we do what we can to make it stop. Obviously we try natural remedies first, but it doesn't bother me one bit to give medicine when it's needed.

I gave her my corn cob last night when I was done with it and you'd think the girl won the lottery, LOL. She gnawed the everloving snot out of it.

I agree with everyone else about the ibuprofen. If you have tried everything else and nothing is working, it is a good idea.

DD is a horrible teether too. She has been wearing a teething necklace since before her first teeth came through and she is still a horrible teether. I'm not saying that they don't work, I'm just saying that's how bad she is. She has been working on her front 2 teeth for over a week now and they keep going up and down and she has had a fever as high as 104F. I will be super glad when those teeth come and I bet she will be too.

More then likely the high fever was from a virus not teething. There has been numerous studies done on this...teething can cause a low grade fever but not a high grade fever.
