Favorite Tropical vacation with 1yr old

I'm trying to plan a vacation,in the US, to a tropical(ish) location. Dd is an active 14 month old who loves exploring and swimming. I would love to do Hawaii, but its a 12 hr flight, pretty sure she wouldn't be up for that. So where have you gone that you really enjoyed with a toddler? Tell me all about it, this is totally new for me Thanks!

San Diego is awesome. It's warm and sunny but not too sticky. There's the SD Zoo, Sea World, and great beaches. I live here so if you want any more specifics let me know. My 14 mos old seems happy.

I really loved the florida keys, but we haven't been there with the kids (yet). i totally would if we had the cash, though.

My babe is only 3 months now, but am hoping to go back to Culebra next winter.
It's a small island off of Puerto Rico. Not very built-up/touristy, and you can rent an apartment or villa-type place to stay. Gorgeous beaches and snorkeling! I'm hoping to get friends to come along so we can take turns babysitting

Go to Bermuda! I LOVE Bermuda

Went there without DD or DS [who's not even born, so that's obvious] but I am going to be taking both kids next year for 100% sure. The beaches are small, intimate and beautiful [we found so many special shallow coves] there's so many great little things to do with kids [glass bottom boat ride] and it's clean and just stunning.

Bahamas are nice, but not as nice as Bermuda. The Atlantis is a good resort for kids and there's some nice kiddie pools that DD LOVED.

I am on the Atlantic side of Florida with a 1y old right now, he is having a blast! He is the same age as your DD, I have two older girls and we have been spending the last 10 days on the beach and that is about it. He still refuses to walk but he loves crawling through the waves, knocking down sand castles. We take long walks on the beach with him on our backs every night. Our condo walks right out to the beach so I go in and out with him multiple times a day. We eat breakfast, the girls and DH head out, I gather things up and then DS and I go out. When he starts to get grumpy a couple hours later, he and I come back in, I lay him down for a nap and then we do the same thing again when he wakes up. This honestly has been the best, most low key vacation I have ever taken with kiddos, no trying to get to point A and B before a toddler melts down, I just walk back inside when he is done.

I really, really, really wanted to go to Hawaii as well but DH wanted nothing to do with the time difference and 3 children so we came here instead. It is a 2 hour time difference and was rough enough for the first couple days, traveling threw DS all off and he was refusing to go sleep before 1am and then sleeping into 10am, at least we had no place to go!

My requirement was it had to be within an hour of Orlando because I do have a grandmother here and I wanted to be able to see her a couple times, and because I didn't want to do another plane change or longer trip. I settled on Cocoa Beach just because it was larger and had more things for Dh to do, he gets bored easier then my 3y. Which we actually haven't needed because he has been happy as a clam not going out except at night for a fish dinner. I prefer New Smyrna beach myself, it is where I always went as a kid, but there are tons of towns/islands all over this side of Florida that is oil free so far.

anyway, happy vacation planning!

Yes! We are leaving in a week. ( I think you responded to my old vacation thread. Thanks!)

Picture this: 7 day cruise, 3 days docked at bermuda, from NYC. Suite perks like flatscreen TV/DVD player, DVD library, 135 square foot balcony, and we can have dinner brought into our dining room by our butler. And, we are bringing a blowup pool for DD to splash in on our huge deck.

Not to mention pink sands, calm blue waters, and intimate little coves on Bermuda, a very much hassle free and clean island.

Can you tell I am excited? Yeah, we are excited. We kinda went all out and are really hoping for a stress-free vacation with an almost two-year-old. DH needs this soooo much.

I'll let you know in 3 weeks how it went. (We our tacking on a week in NYC as well.) But, anyway, we did a lot of research and came up with this. It was really fun, so...have fun!

HAVE FUN! And we live on the cliff in Weehawken and watch the cruise ships go by [we just "waved" at my Aunt today who left for Bermuda!!!] so ha, should I make you a banner that says "HAVE FUN FROM MOMMARIFFIC?"

I am a firm believer that some vacations should be splurges, and Bermuda is one of them. Some things are worth the extra cost when you have a toddler.

Thanks for all the ideas! Bahamas was at the top of my list, but now Bermuda is looking pretty amazing. This can't be a spurge vacation though, so I'm looking into some simple accomodations. If I can find something that works, in a budget, I'm totally heading there. Otherwise Florida might be a good way to go. I love the idea of getting a place right on the water, no driving is a vacation in itself! One thing I wonder about is so many beach days for the babe? How did you prevent sun burn- rash guard, sunscreen, find shaded area?
