What makes a good childrens book good?
new words
good pictures -- good art, or fun picutres, or nice use of cosing,
good chat along book like Sheep in a Jeep
fun to read like Dr Suess
a old story (3 pigs, city mouse / counry mouse, sleeping bueaty)
something to think about
something to speak to a child (llama llama mad at momma)

the list goes on

i think it is easier to say what is bad

forced writting
phonice readers that have no plot , no fun words, no emotion
tv shows "made into books"
stuff like that.

I think, not to be flippant, that it speaks to you -- read it -- it is woat) and so on ... but rth it?

*shrug* -- you know crap when you see it -- and you know good when you see it.

Yes I go a step more and try to make sure we read all the "old stories" (3 pigs, jack and the bean stalk, little red riding hood and so on and many versions of them at that -- but at the end of the day .....you know if ther eis vaule (art, fun, enjoyment, wonder ....) to a book or not.
