Ack! I have a cold and a 12 day old baby! Will she get it?

I think I am coming down with a cold and dd is 12 days old. Will she get immunity from my breastmilk before she gets my cold? Ordinarily I wouldn't freak out over this but she is only a tiny one and when leaving the hospital they issued the standard warning about staying away from crowds, etc because "if she gets a virus, she'll be in the hospital". What do I do?

Nurse, nurse, then nurse some more! The baby will receive your antibodies via your breast milk and that should keep her illness-free.

I would also up my vitamin D and vitamin C intake right now if I was you, just for my own sake.

I got a terrible stomach virus when DD had been home for 5 days. She was 5 pounds, and still a month from her due date. My son and husband also had the virus.

I just kept nursing her and she never got sick!

If it makes you feel any better, my little ones never got sick (even when I was completely ill and miserable) until they were eating substantial amounts of solid foods and less breastmilk. Even when I was puking my guts out.

thanks everyone. This makes me feel better. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and start checking her temp every 12 hours or so.
