I'm wondering what's going on here....my son is over two months old and I'm just now getting a sore nipple...just on one side, and it seems worse today (started yesterday). And twice today I felt an odd shooting pain that was NOT letdown (felt it once yesterday). I read in my book that this could be thrush related, but my husband who is an ER doc says the baby does not have ANY sign of thrush...so I'm wondering what else this could be??? Does anyone have any thoughts?????

Problems sticky????
Today I've just been pumping....seems less sore but I haven't tried feeding him on that side yet.....no shooting pain today..... I'd like to try a natural remedy if I can if something is needed....I'm not sure what the problems sticky is...I haven't had time to explore much of this site yet...is that another part of the forums?

its the last list on the page- 'thrush'
As for natural remedies- Grapefruit Seed Extract is often recommended, although I personally love Dr. Newman's All Purpose Nipple Ointment- it saved our nursing relationship, its def not natural though. I did however, find that vinegar rinses were great as an additional treatment.
Good luck, you can get through this!

Thank YOU!
I nursed him on that side last night and all was fine......so I'm hoping whatever the problem had been has resolved itself. I am taking some probiotics though and checking out these resources...just in case! Then if symptoms even begin to return I can act immediately! Thank you again.

I just wanted to chime in here too..
This is how my yeast started!! If it comes back, definitely start treating yourself.. the only sign that my ds had was a slightly white tongue (still think that it was just a milk film).. but I definitely had the very painful nipples and the lightning-bolt feelings in breasts.. plus a letdown that felt like cement. sheesh.. We used gentian violet for 5 days and felt much better... then... silly me, I stopped for two days because I got the flu, and it all seems to be back. Might try the diflucan now.. but need to research it more first.
