ULTRA pasteurized

Thread Starter
I can not find ANY milk or cream that not ultra pasteurized. I look at Whole Foods and another health food store. They only have yogurt (cow, sheep, goat) that is not ULTRA pasteurized.
Do others find it hard to find? How can I ever make yogurt or other cultured dairy???

There is only one brand of cream and 1/2&1/2 here that isn't ultrapasturized, but most of the non-organic milk is just pasturized. We buy raw milk so it doesn't affect us much. I'm sorry that you are having such a hard time finding milk.

Best way is to track down a local source, and just go raw since you're bothering. Mass produced and shipped organics have to keep a long shelf life so get ultra pasturized. http://www.realmilk.com/

as far as your location goes do you even have a choice for fresh? aren't there only like two dairies left? I don't see that you have much choice except an expensive import unless I'm wrong and you can find a small supplier

You can absolutely culture UHT milk - in fact, you probably should to put something good back in it.

FWIW, because most, if not all, milk sold in stores is homogenized, it's probably better to just buy cream top yogurt (which has not been), if money is not an issue, of course. But in general I'm more concerned about the homogenization than I am about the pasteurization.
