Our little miss Kylee Lynn O. arrived Saturday, May 15th, 2010 at 9:04am. Born on her Daddy's 30th birthday at 39 weeks gestation. From first contraction to birth was exactly 2 hrs. She weighed 8lbs exactly and was 20" long. She has a full head of brown hair and sweet little brown eyes.
On Saturday morning I woke up at 7am-my normal waking up time. At 7:04 I started getting pain that started in the girly parts and moving up to my front and back. I was a little unsure so I just laid in bed and waited to see what would happen. Then 7:08 it happened again and after a little while of timing them realized that this might be it because they were getting stronger and coming about 3-5 mins apart so I decided to take a shower. It helped with the pains. Got dressed and then went downstairs to tell hubby that he was getting his birthday present soon. That we had to go to the hospital. That was around 8am. Went and told my sister that we were headed to hospital, had her call mom to let her know we were heading out. Hubby drove and FIL came to keep hubby company while I was in labor.
We arrived at the hospital at 8:25. Contractions were still between 3-5 mins apart. They sent us to triage to be observed. The contractions were getting stronger but not closer. Spent 20 mins on the monitors, then the nurse came in to check on me. She immediately went and told them to get me a room NOW. I had bulging bag of waters and was 7-8cm already. The contractions were about 2-3 mins apart and at 8:50 they moved me into a room. By then the contractions were really strong and painful but not unbearable.
When I got into the room there was one unbearable contraction as I was trying to move to the bed and spent it on my hands and knees. Then I felt the urge to push so I turned over. Heard a little pop-water had broke with only a little bit coming out as Kylee's head was blocking the rest. Then started pushing, her head came out and I heard hubby say not again-as for the third time in a row with kids coming out with cords around their necks-there was one around hers. The midwife put her fingers between the cord and the neck and then I pushed out the rest of her body. Two hrs exactly after contractions had started. Which then the rest of the water came out and I said there goes my socks. They laughed. I was still in all my clothes except for bottoms. They immediately put her on my chest and she started screaming. 5 mins later the placenta came out. The midwife waited until the cord was done pulsing and took some of the blood and pushed the rest of the blood into Kylee. The cord was cut and they started cleaning me up. There was a small tear but I opted out of stitching up. As soon as they were done I started breastfeeding Kylee. She was a champ. Then the rest of the family came and met her. They were all excited. We took pictures, celebrated with sparkling cider and then they left. I was able to go home the next afternoon.
It's now 3 weeks later. We've had a few dr appts. She's growing like a weed-within one week we had to put away her newborn clothes and get out her 3-6 months clothes. She weighted 8lbs even at birth, lost a half lb when we left the hospital, weighed 7lbs 15oz at 5 days old and last Wednesday at 2 1/2 weeks old she was weighed at the midwife's office and she was 9lbs 2 oz. She nurses every three hours now, earlier she wasn't on a predictable schedule-she would nurse, then an hour later she'd want to nurse again, another hour later wanting to nurse then three hrs later she would start the cycle over again but now she eats about every three hours. We were having latch issues in the beginning also with her strong suck needs made for a painful breastfeeding two weeks. But its all better. She's already holding her head up although a little floppy still. She smiles alot and is a pretty noisy girl. She makes tons of noise when she's eating, sleeping, stretching, pooping, just all the time. It's so cute.
I'm doing good. Sleep is going ok not great but she only wakes up twice in the night. I've already lost all the weight gained, now 10lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight. Bleeding is still there only picking up when I overdo it, which is quite a bit because I've already been going out for quite a bit for shopping and dr appts and appts for my sister. The day that I got out of the hospital, I ran into Trader Joe's to pick up ingredients for this week's dinners, then went to pharmacy to pick up medications and visited hubby's grandparents to show off Kylee. After my last few births I would feel great then crash because my thyroid levels go wonky after the births, so this time I stopped my meds for the last three weeks and now I'm feeling like I need to start them up again. Once I get my levels back to normal then I'll be feeling better but this postpartum time I've had better energy levels then the last few times. Just stressed with hubby having no job and all that. Otherwise this has been the best birth and postpartum time. Just loving Kylee and the kids just adore her, there has been no hard feeling towards her by the kids like we thought there might be but they just love her so much.
