As time ticks on, we are getting no closer on names. Granted, we've still got time, but it will, eventually, run out.
Our youngest was unnamed for a few days because we had NO boy names. (We did have a final announcement after 3 days, which was what I told everyone it would take if he really was a boy!)
So, I'd love input on names to go with my three boys' names. Current boys are:
Gabriel Josiah
Iain David (Iain is Gaelic for "John")
Judah Samuel
Our basic criteria is that the name be recognizable but not really common. While we know a few Gabriels (3-4?), we know almost no Iains (or even Ians) and only a Jude, no Judahs. So, it's worked well so far.
We do have strong preference for Hebrew names, or variants thereof. The meaning is very important to us. In speaking with a Jewish friend, I am coming to understand that the *literal* meanings of some names may be very different from the accepted meanings. Not sure where I stand on that - if the literal translation matter so much. But, like I said, meaning and heritage of the name is very important.
For middle names, we've so far gone with traditional names that are also those of Hebrew kings and prophets. (We kind of ran out of good kings with good names!) I don't know that we'll maintain that with a girl; it wasn't entirely intentional, and I don't love the name Esther, which is the only queen I can think of.
I've been drawn to more virtue names for a girl MN, such as Grace or Faith, but am very open to options. (I don't really like "filler" names, but those two both have meaning and value to me.)
So, is that too much to ask for?
I'd love ideas! I have been tempted to force DH to sit down with a name book (which is how he chose Judah's name!), just so HE can pull out some fresh ideas. I have some, and he likes some of them, but I am not sure we're anywhere close to having a real idea of our options.
Thanks!
