Need name ideas :) - Page 3

Awesome link, InMediasRes!

Heather - we both love the name "Hannah," but agree that it's far too popular these days, so how about "Shoshannah?"

Shoshannah is an interesting idea. I have also liked Susanna(h) in the past. I have to think on nicknames for both of those, though! I do wish Hannah wasn't so popular, but I completely understand why it is.

Susannah is nice, although maybe not as . . . grand as your son's names, you know?

Off-topic: You live in Sugar Land? I was born and raised in Houston! How's the weather down there treatin' ya? I talked to my Mom earlier and she said the humidity is killing her.

Yeah, it does have a different feel to it. I remember liking it before we even got married! Not sure it'll be on the list this time.

Yep, Sugar Land it is. And I love it - the air conditioning is wonderful. I am slightly miffed at myself for not realizing before hand that I'm now pg for the THIRD time over the summer. Sigh. At least it should be cooler in November - as opposed to September (twice).

Hey, you want a grand name I have one for you - Sheherazade! I read some Vogue article where a woman's name was - I kid you not - Sheherazade Goldsmith. Her married name. I think it's a beautiful name, but it would take someone bold the bestow it. Maybe you're just such a person?

I know what you mean about the air conditioning. When I moved to England for grad school everyone thought I was crazy because I searched high and low until I found a flat with central a/c, which is pretty much impossible to find. I took air-conditioning as my God long ago, and I will never forsake it - not for London and not even for New York.

I'm currently angry at myself for not thinking about the fact that I've planned an outdoor wedding in AUGUST. Then I remind myself that the average high in Brooklyn during August is 76 and the average low in Houston is 75 and I try and calm myself down. It works a little.

Totally out there, but kind of cool. You could call her Belle. Although, if your dh thinks Miriam is "old", I don't think he'll go for Mehitabel.

I dated a Shadrach for a while.. He went by Shad.

Weirdly though, his parents were almost anti-religion... never figured that out.

I went to high school with a Zepheriah. He commonly went by Zeph and I thought it was the coolest name. My husband's really hot younger brother is Seth and I also really like that name.

For those who like Hannah but think it is too popular, my daughter is Shanna and it has never been in the top 1,000 names. People seem to think it is an awesome name.

OOH, I forgot, I had a friend named Zoar in college. He was Jewish. I think it's actually a place name in the bible. I don't remember the significance, but I love it anyway.

My little guy is Hezekiah. You are more than welcome to "steal" it, though it does have that "ah" ending. Good king, poet, engineer and generally awesome Bible character. I have heard of one other and seen the name in the credits of a film once. It hasn't been in the top thousand since the early part of the last century.

My youngest (if you don't count the one I am expecting) is Noe - named from one of the daughters of Zelophehad (there's a name!). Proto-feminists from the Bible (more awesomeness). Mahlah, Noa, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah are the whole group. (Noe/Noa is pronounced just like Noah and means the same thing). Again though - all "ah" names. Maybe that can be just something you do.

Best of Luck!
