My friend is going to host my baby shower for me, and is asking when I want to have it. I'm due in mid December, but I was thinking about maybe having it the first or second weekend in October? Is that too early? It seems like most of the women I know around my area have their baby showers 2 months before the EDD...

i say go for it any time! a lot of people wait until near the end....not sure if it is for superstitious reasons or what....but i DO know that for logistical reasons (people traveling from out of town) i had both of my showers (one was a surprise) at 24 and 26 weeks.
the reason i really loved having it on the early side is because then you know what you received, you have plenty of time and energy for thank yous, and you have plenty of time to buy what you didn't receive if you really need it!
also, i must admit, the further down the road you are, the less comfy it is to sit for long periods and stand for long periods. i was far enough along that i was showing, but super comfortable still which was nice :-)

I am always surprised when people have them before baby- it seems more like a gift grab that way. Usually around here it's after baby (or very shortly before). It makes sense to have it before baby though. I am not going to say I wouldn't have loved to have one! They threw me a potluck at work and gave me a group gift and that's prob the only shower I'll have. I've had to buy everything myself (other than some fam giving big $$ for things) and I'll throw a welcome baby thing sometime this summer but not an actual shower.
I think it probably really just depends on how your circle does it.
