What is up with my cat pooping on the floor???

My cat, Nimh, is 12 years old, and she just started pooping on the floor in the entryway/1/2 bath area. This is soooooo completely out of the ordinary for her, I have had her since she was a kitten and she has NEVER ever gone anywhere but the litterbox.

I thought it was a fluke at first, I came home one day to find that she had peed next to the radiator and then pooped next to the door. I went downstairs and realized that I did miss scooping the box about 3 days in a row so I immediately changed it and no accidents since. Now today I walked in the bathroom so I could help my LO fill up the sink for her sea creatures and almost stepped right on it.

She has also been really really whiny. She has always been a pretty vocal cat (she will "talk" back to you if you talk back) and very affectionate but lately all she does follow you around and meow incessantly, it's making everyone nuts.

So I think she is trying to tell me something but I don't have to money to take her to the vet until the end of this week.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm so worried for my kitty. She was the first pet I've ever had that was just mine and I've had her for so long...I hope there's nothing really wrong.

take her to the vet when you can. Cats can get alzheimers etc. she is older now and could be experiencing some mental and/or physical issues. cats have ways of telling you somethings not right.

hope all goes well :")

Sounds like time for a check-up. Cats with arthritis can show inappropriate elimination problems. AS can cats with constipation issues. What do her stools look like? Are they hard and small? Very runny-can also indicate constipation issues as the runny poo leaks around hard, impacted stool.
It can also be a learned behaviour...went before, smells it, convience says go here again. Yes it can also be senility issue...but generally physical problems get ruled out first.
While cats hitting 12 are considered seniors I routinely see 16-20y/o cats at the hosp.

Hmm...the poops I've found on the floor have been dark, big, and look like a bunch of small-medium poops all stuck together, not runny at all but and not necessarily hard either. Ick. She puked on the floor this morning too, not a hairball, just all undigested cat food.

I'm taking her in either Friday or Monday. I wish we could go sooner, but I have no money.

ETA: it is so weird for me to think of her as old, but she really is getting up there, huh? I had no idea that cats can become senile. I hope that is the case and she's not really sick. My poor Nimue.
