I think I wrecked ALL my diapers!

Aah! This sucks. So DS and I went away for a week, to visit the grandparents. I bought sposies to bring with us. We got back the other day and DP had not bothered to wash the full load of dipes in the pail... ugh. Near killed me just getting them into the machine, they were so gross.
We've been dealing off and on with a staph infection from our dipes, and I didn't want to mess around. I rinsed them and then let them soak in hot water with detergent and probably a bit over 1/2 cup of BLEACH... yes bleach. I just didn't want to see more weeping blisters on DS' penis... I know there are other alternatives
Anyways, those diapers are uber-rinsed and dried now, and I had to change DS, pjs' and all, 3 times last night because they leak through as soon as he pees.
Thats a lot of ruined diapers. We used to use just prefolds, but when it became apparent that he needed a more moisture-wicking diaper at the daycare, we got some fancy dipes. So these were all BGs and FB and these bamboo baby AIOs... And I'm pregnant and was counting on using them for #2 as well. And we are so so broke. So back to the prefolds for now, and I don't think we even have covers that fit him anymore. Maybe I have a couple sweaters I can turn into covers.

That sucks. You can get some covers for not too much money, and then rebuild by buying 1 diaper each week for awhile.

Oh, that's too bad. Can you get some dappi nylon pull-ons to put over them temporarily? The absorbent part is still good, right?

oh, my heart broke just reading this! grab some cheap covers and use those with the prefolds. maybe you can find some cheap on diaperswappers?? can you deal with using the ruined dipes around the house without pants for a while so you can save up money to get more? so sorry!

Cheap covers.... I was online shopping the other day and found tinytush.com has there seconds covers for like $5 and their shipping is reasonable.

Is it leaking through the PUL? Or could it be repelling? Is the insert getting wet?

If it's leaking through the PUL, you could use them at home like you would coverless fitteds. Or you can use them under fleece pants. Or even use them under covers- that way you'd still have the staydry fabric next to his skin.

If the insert isn't getting wet, I'd try stripping.

Thanks mamas! I did just recently strip my diapers, so I'm pretty sure they're not repelling, but leaking through the PUL at the seams. It's a LOT worse when he's laying down... Dunno, but my AIOs seem to be ok, just the pockets are leaky now.
A friend of mine lent me a couple pockets that I'm using at night, and I'm using the old ones in the day. So far they're fine, though I haven't tried putting pants on him yet. He's usually just in a diaper in the summer anyways, and hopefully he'll be fairly diaper free come next fall.
Thankfully I've got lotsa diapers for new baby that I've lent out, but will get back, infant prefolds and covers. And I have tons of big prefolds. I just really like the pockets if we're going to be out for awhile or for nightime, cuz they keep him dry. Plus, new baby will start daycare when he/she is one, and it woulda been nice to have the BGs...
Oh well, all is not lost, and I like him running around in just a prefold in the summer anyways! Get him a little breeze going down there!
