9 1/2 month old scheduled for an oral x-ray tomorrow

DS fell last night and mucked up his upper gums. It was too painful and swollen to get a good look until this morning. Before I got a good look I called our ped dentist to make sure that I was handling everything okay.... knew what to look for. I was instructed to wait for a call back.

In the meantime, I took a look. The swelling has started to go down and everything looks better overall.

I got a call back and they want to see him tomorrow morning for an x-ray. At this point part of me feels like an x-ray is overkill. I still want to do the right thing by my child. I also don't want to waste the dentist's time or look like the parent was too much of an idiot to listen.

What would you do?

I guess for me would depend on how it looks, and what kind of trauma had happened.

I would want the pediatric dentist to LOOK at him but I'm not sure I would jump for an xray. When my son was a pretty new walker he fell in the driveway and chipped a tooth. We saw the Ped, and a pediatric dentist, but neither took xrays.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Amanda. I decided to take him in after all. His teeth are infact loose. An x ray was taken and everything looks good. We still have to watch for an infection but chances for that happening are slim. It will take a while for his gums to heal but he'll be alright.

It's one of those things you can't really get the answer from a forum, ya know? you have to go with what you feel is best.

FWIW, my sons chipped tooth was loose for about a week before his mouth totally healed and it was no longer loose. It was the first baby tooth he lost (front right)

Glad he's fine
