cleaning the in-between poo?

Maybe this should go in cloth diapering, I'm not sure, but I figured I'd get a bigger response here.

Anyway, here goes, how do you go about cleaning that in-between poo? We *just* started solids and I'm amazed at how such a small amount of food can make such a difference in their poos. Anyway, it's not solid enough to shake off and it doesn't really seem liquidy enough to just throw in the pail till laundry day, so what do you do?

I"ve just been throwing them in the pail and hoping for the best, but I'd love to hear some other suggestions.

You could consider getting a sprayer hose for your toilet-- it goes on with a wrench and then you can spray the diapers over the toilet so that the poop can just be flushed.

Moving to Cloth Diapers... there may be more folks reading in Life With a Babe, but it's the CD gurus who will know what to do with this!

As gross as it may sound...when we had this kind of poo I just wiped the dipe with toilet paper and then washed. I couldn't afford a sprayer thingy...

You may also look into getting a potty chair and starting pooping on the potty. We've been doing this since solids and it's been a live-saver! I rarely change a poop diaper anymore...

The Diaper Sprayer is an awesome investment (and not actually that much money.) You can use it on your bum, too, and cut down on TP usage.

I have a hard plastic spatula that works wonders. I just scrape the poo off and into the toilet, then throw the diaper in the pail. It seems less messy than the sprayer and is cheaper too.

I used a hard plastic spatula, kept it in an old ceramic cup inside the not-really used medicine cabinet in the bathroom in DD's room. I wasn't up for the whole thing of buying and setting up a sprayer, and I worried about making the poo airborn all over the little bathroom... maybe that's just me! I do love the idea of being able to use it on bums, though... like your own little bidet

But this time I've already decided (if we're using dipes, we're going to try EC) I'm going to try those flushable liners, just for those months of starting solids but where the poo can't roll right off the dipe. By the time DD was eating throughout the day, her poo would roll right off into the potty.

Really - the Sprayer is really not messy - the Diaper Sprayer brand has a built-in pressure adjuster so you can make it as soft as you need. Even old, dried-in poopy diapers become pristine if you use it. It prevents staining and makes laundry so much easier. And the husbands love it b/c it means that no actual poop is going into the washer. I absolutely would not do cloth without it and we even considered bringing one to Disney World but figured the hotel would not want us unhooking their plumbing!

As for the bidet function... I cannot believe I ever lived 30 years without spraying my bum - toilet paper alone is so unclean in comparison.

If it isn't a solid enough chunk to plop into the toilet I just throw it in the wash. Works fine lol

I'm the wrong person to ask, since I'm just dunking. Yuck. I can't afford a sprayer either LOL. I wonder if I could buy an nozzle attachment for the sink and just use that to spray the poop into the toilet?

I have heard of mama's who have done this and they say it works fine. Worth a shot.

Plastic squirt bottle = poor mama's diaper sprayer. I'm still using my peri bottle from the hospital.

Oh I wonder if I have my peri bottle? Don't you have to keep refilling it to get all the poop off?

We used to have a diaper sprayer, which was nice... but it broke a year or so ago and we've just been dunking ever since. Works fine... slightly gross, but super cheap

My DD is 20 months old and I still have to use the spatula for about half her poops because they STILL aren't always formed enough to roll off. She's only nursing once a day too, so it's definitely not breastmilk poo. It definitely needs a spatula...I'm not even sure a sprayer would take care of it.

My sprayer gets off everything. I mean everything. I feel like this product is so misunderstood! When I am done spraying a diaper, it is pristine. Not a speck of poop. I couldn't get them so clean with the bumGenius sprayer, but the Diaper Sprayer brand gets them absolutely spotless.

Um, sometimes if it's (TMI alert) a really stuck one.

We use microfleece-topped inserts so a lot of the time the poo smear kind of peels off with just a little shaking. Often I just need a little jet of water to get it started.

But yeah, if it's a big messy stuck one then I have to refill the bottle. No biggie. It's still way better than dunking or spatula, neither of which worked well for me.

I had to dunk again today. Ick. I need a better way LOL.

I guess I could use my Flip disposible liners for now (when I think she's due to poop) until I can buy a sprayer.
