What can I make out of an old pair of jeans?

Got any ideas/websites of what crafts/clothing I could make out of old denim clothing? I've seen some cute things made out of recycled jeans...looking for more ideas...

I use 'em to make diapers.

My sister opens up the inseam, sews the crotch curve down funky, and then sews in an inset from another pair of pants to make a long skirt.

My mom once made me a school-bag out of the top part of a pair of my dad's jeans - all the pockets intact, and straps made from one of the legs.

We've made quilts from blue-jean pieces. Some of them plain, some of the pieces with pockets on 'em, and some with apliques & embroidery. (We made it for my grandpa, so there were handprint appliques, other appliques of us kids' drawings, our signatures done in embroidery, stuff like that)

I made a new jean jacket entirely out of pieces from old jeans for an art project once - I even took pieces that had lots of holes in them & sewed a contrasting piece of denim behind it, so the fabric was intact but it still looked distressed. I painted the back panel, did batik on some other pieces - it ended up looking really cool!

I've always wanted to do one of those skirts, but haven't had the nerve.

I cut up DH's worn jeans into strips that I use for weaving. They aren't part of the projects, just tools for starting the warp out evenly or holding the first or last weft strand in place.

I want to make a quilt top with jean squares someday, with the edges all fringey.

I found this web site with a lot of recycling old pair of jeans idea.

i think they make strips of the pants or such and do some sort of thing where they get a braided rug

the nice thing is that denim is sturdy enough that it takes abuse

Thanks or all your ideas.

How do you make one of those long skirts??? Would love more details, do you have a picture?

I saw an idea for a denim lunch bag ~ what a great idea!

I came across this patriotic denim quilt for $375!!!

Thanks for that megan.scatterbrain site! Now I can see one way to deal with the front and back curved places.

I think I'll practice with the pair of pants I'm converting into a skirt for DD first though.

I did it!!!

I made DD's skirt from DS's old pants and my skirt from my former favorite jeans yesterday. I got lovely loosish weave acrylic/cotton suiting material--PIA to work with but is so soft and texturey... and sewed all evening.

We both wore our new skirts to church today.

That's my last one. I think jean quilts are so neat and warm. They are my favorite to make.

You could make a baby carrier out of them! An Asian Baby Carrier. Use the tush as the body and make the straps out of the legs!

We make roll pillows with them. Cut them off anywhere on the leg depending on how long you like them, you can cut them off at the top of the leg and have long ones or cut them off at the knees for short ones. Sew one end shut, then stuff, then sew the other end. Decorate as you please.
Holes are easy to disguise.

( these work with other pant legs aswell, notjust jeans)

I'd been wanting a skirt like this for years, always liked the idea.

When I saw that website I saw the last bit of the puzzle, how to handle the crotch curve. Though as it turned out I cut the center out to flatness instead of stitching down the curves.

It just all came together when DH dropped DD and me off at Joann's while he and DS went to a sporting goods store. I found fabric I fell in love with and the rest is skirt!:LOL

Mine is a long skirt though, not short like the megan site showed.
