Grasshoppers?

I found a baby grasshopper on my bay leaf plant this morning. It seems to have hatched (or come out of its cocoon) and eaten most of this leaf. Should I relocate it outside our fence or will it hop away on its own? I don't mind some insects eating our bounty. I do mind if the insects destroy the plant.

Anyone know the pros and cons of grasshoppers on plant health? Are they mostly beneficial or mostly detrimental to gardens?
