Please talk to me about supplementing?

I'm a newly pregnant working mom of a toothless, solid-disliking 8 month old son.

As this pregnancy progresses, it's harder and harder to pump. I took a week off of work/and pumping around the time I must have gotten pregnant, and went from pumping 4-5 ounces a session to 2-3. Right now we've been using my frozen stash, but it won't be long until that's gone.

We've also been trying to push DS to have solid food for lunch, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't even know how to go about supplementing with formula-- I would like to hold off for as long as possible, but is it ok to have DS filling up on solids to satisfy hunger during the day? If I do make it to a year old some how, do I need give formula even when he's older than a year, since my milk wold be gone by then. How can I tell if he's still hungry-- right now he'd hang on my boob all day/night long if I let him.

Anyways... I"m rambling... I'm sure it's as easy as 'just give him a bottle' but I want to make sure I don't hurt my supply any more than I already have, and that my sweet little baby get's as much bm as possible.

how far along are you? and how long are you away from your son? at 8 months, he might be able to last most of the day on a few oz and solids, and then reverse-cycle a bit when you're home with him. if you can cosleep and let him nurse as needed all night, he might be able to get everything he needs. if you do decide you need to supplement with formula, are you planning to tandem nurse when the new LO is born? a couple of months of supplementing with formula wouldn't be the end of the world if you let him nurse as much as possible now and after the baby is born.

he's also right on the cusp of being old enough to start other kinds of milks.. there are different recommendations, so i'd research those and see if you're comfortable with that starting in a couple of months.
