I don’t know how to describe it but I have an urge to go spend today. We are having some work done on the house today and I'm planning on taking the kids out. Recycling, library and should go to the park, but I have this calling to shop.

Please give me some encouragement to resist!

I find that spending time browsing the shelves at the library is a good substitute for shopping for me. Get books for the kiddos first, then have them sit at the edge of the aisle looking at their books while you browse the shelves and find books that look interesting to you.

What is it that you would buy if you went shopping? Clothes? Look for fashion books/magazines or craft magazines. Household items? Look for decorating books. Groceries? Look for a new cookbook or book about entertaining. Or just immerse yourself in a nice escapist fiction

pack snacks, go to the library and playground and do not take your wallet with you.

I second the suggestion to leave your money at home. If I don't have my debit or credit cards (I don't carry cash), then I can't shop. Having more willpower would be ideal, but we all have our weaknesses

I doubt this is helpful...

When that urge hits me so badly, I give myself ten bucks and go to a thrift store. Lots can be had for that amount and I try to shop for other people or charities.
