Anyone have one of these? One of the neighboring districts does this in my area. It has been thrown around for my school district, but tossed out for the 2010/11 school year, I think the issue will be revisited this year. My DD1 goes to a small private school and when they were talking about it for the public schools I was curious if our school would follow suit. I received a form for our school the other day and the 4 day school work is on there. They are considering it as a possibility so that they can limit raising tuition prices. The proposed schedule would be 4 days from 8:30-4:30 instead of the current 5 8:30-3pm.
Part of me is like awesome, 3 day weekend! That could be nice, we snowboard and in the winter DD1 gets pulled out often to go up on a powder day,
a 3 day weekend could eliminate that, have more family time. Her school does have a relaxed attendance policy by the way, the director feels that children being outside is just as important as school. The mom in me says that is a long school day and what would happen to gymnastics and any after school activities especially if the local public schools were not doing it. Most things start at 3:30pm around here, DD1's gymnastics starts at 4:30pm though because she is in a higher level so I could still make it work with grabbing her from school a few minutes early.
Any one doing 4 day school weeks? It appears that there is no data on them, very few districts have resorted to this because of money concerns.
