Refusing to nurse :(

Last week she started refusing the right breast...but then she'd take it at night just fine. NOW, she doesn't want to nurse all together...just pushes away from me and kicks. She's about 5.5 months old...is this normal? Nursing strike?? Distractions? (we nurse with the blinds shut in our nursing chair, just as we've always done.) Teething? I'm just hoping she's not weaning I feel so rejected Has anyone else gone through this? Is there hope that she'll go back to it again?

my spn did this about a week before he started moving. I got him to eat at might- he nursed almost all night those nights, and once he figured out how to move forward, it calmed down and he is still nursing at 11 months. Keep trying, i think they read when we get frantic, so just relax and remember she won't starve, and pump if you need to for comfort.

So what you're thinking is that she might be working on some developmental skill right now? That would make sense...because every time I hold her, she's like trying to jump or scoot...she basically can't sit still. She'll latch on, pull off...and then start looking around the room and trying to scoot off my lap!
So very frustrating... I guess I'll just keep offering the breast until she finally takes it again

she could be getting ready to crawl, has she started rolling over yet? or, it could just be the fact that she is getting old and more easily distractable, but just keep trying, and eventually she will nurse. If it has been more than a few hours, I would pump so that your supply isn't affected.

posted this in your other thread too.

Nursing strike. Keep offering. Pump pften if you can to maintain supply. Ideas on Kellymom: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/...to-breast.html
