Is my peach tree dead?

I planted it in March. It is now June and it has no leaves. Did I kill it?

The nursery I usually buy my fruit trees from lists peaches as one of the trees that sometimes delay breaking dormancy until mid-summer, so I don't think it is hopeless.

If it were my tree, I'd email the nursery now to have a record of having contacted them in case there is an issue, and then I'd do a scratch test in early July if it still hasn't leafed out. Have you ever done a scratch test? If not, it is very easy - just take your fingernail and make a small scrape in the bark of a branch or the trunk of the tree. If the cambrium (the layer right underneath the bark) is green, the tree is still alive, and you should give it a little more time. If it is brown, you've lost the tree and should contact the nursery for whatever guarantee they offer.

Good luck!

Oh yay! I'm glad there's still hope! I've never done a scratch test, but it sounds easy enough. Thank you!
