diapers repelling, help!

I have some cotton sherpa diapers that are pretty new. I used them a few times and they were fine. Now they are repelling. When my daughter pees it runs off the sides of the diaper and fills her cover with a puddle and creates terrible leaks. I'm not sure what caused this repelling, but I might have an idea. Last week I was washing diapers and noticed one of my shirts some how made it in with the diapers. I have NO idea how that happened... Anyway, I use Secret Clinical deodorant/antiperpirant (horrible, I know...) and I'm thinking maybe it coated the diapers with water-repelling nastiness. Of course, this is just a theory of mine, I'm not really sure what happened. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do with them? Should I strip them in just hot water? Dawn? Anything else? I hope they aren't ruined!

I'd do a hot wash w/ Dawn then a bunch of cold rinses to get it all out. That should fix them for now. What kind of detergent are you using for the diapers?

I did a bunch of hot washes with no detergent/soap, a wash with some Dawn, a wash with detergent (purex f&c) and then a bunch more hot washes and cold rinses. I'm scared of my water bill now!! I think it did the trick, once they were done with the last wash I trickled some water on a diaper and it absorbed. They're in the dryer now, so pretty soon I'll know for sure. If it worked with this load I'll do the next load and get my poor dd out of sposies! I am going to my local diaper store today to pick up some Country Save and Bac-Out. I think it's finally time to switch to a better diaper detergent (and keep my clothes out of the diaper laundry!!!)

Ok, tried the stripped diapers, big difference in absorption. They absorb!!! Yay, they're not ruined!
Now, off to the store for Country Save, hope I like it...
