Need help with 8yr old gastro illness

Hi,
My poor son has been suffering with some sort of gastro illness since Friday night. He started feeling bad with fever friday night and threw up all night until Sunday late morning. The fever and stomach cramps/nausea continue to plague him. I took him to urgent care yesterday (monday) morning to make sure we weren't dealing with appendix or something. I have yet to have a gastro illness last this long in one of my children. The doc yesterday gave him zofran to help with the nausea so he could take liquids without being in severe pain. We thought he was feeling much better this morning, but the fever and stomach pain has returned and he says he has sore throat now, but I am not sure if that is allergies or a secondary complication.

Do some gastro illnesses really last this long with fever? I am just not sure if I should worry or if this is something that still needs to run it's course.

ETA: I rarely treat fevers, but I did on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, but that is it. Also, no diarrhea, just stomach pain/nausea.

Any advice or thoughts would be great.

If it's a virus, you could try activated charcoal or bentonite clay to help move it on out. If it's something else, I'm not sure what to tell you...

I wonder if the sore throat is from vomiting so much or from strep. I've had strep before where my only symptoms were fever and vomiting.

so here is the update.
Throat ache gone. Still running fever around 102 and he keeps telling me the pain is below his belly button just above the base of his penis in the center of his body, no pain on the sides. He says it hurts more if he pushes on that area. And he hasn't pooped since Sunday afternoon. this has got to be the weirdest gastro thing we have dealt with, not taking a usual course that I have seen.

This couldn't be a parasite or something could it? Or am I just over analyzing things
