2 yr old can't go to sleep without me *and* takes hours to fall asleep

My DD has co-slept off and on for her entire life. She just turned 2 a couple of days ago. Since she was about 1, she would fall asleep in her crib alone and if she woke up I would take her into the guest room for the rest of the night. There was a period of time where she wasn't waking up at all and would sleep in her crib all night. For the past 2 - 3 weeks she has been sleeping with me and my DH is in the guest room. She has gotten to the point where she has to have me in there with her to fall asleep. If I leave and DH comes in she screams and totally freaks. It started with a sickness and has just progressed from there. Last night I spent 3 hours just laying there (7:45 - 10:45 pm) trying to get her to go to sleep. I can't do this every night! Her typical routine was bath at 6:45 - 7:00, nurse from 7:15-7:30 and then DH came in, read books and stayed with her for about 30 mins while she went to sleep in her crib. We are still on that same routine, except she is in our bed. The sleep location doesn't bother me (I can put her down in the guest room and go in if she needs me) as much as the part where she has to have me there. We don't all fit into our bed (it's a queen) and we don't sleep well together as a family anymore (we all wake each other up all night and wake up with back and neck pain).

We are thinking of going ahead and getting either a twin or full for her room that way I can lay with her a bit while she falls asleep, but I just don't know what to do about the time it is taking her to fall asleep. 10:45 is way too late in my opinion for her to be going to bed! Any advice?

My kids go through spurts like that where it takes forever to fall asleep. Of it takes more than 45 minutes to a hr I get up and try again later.
I would think a bed on the ground or really low/with a gaurd would be just fine. Hopefully this is just a quick stage and will pass soon.
