Bodhi's allergy testing-full results list in post #6

DS is almost 11 months and since starting solids at ~6 months has been getting random hives. We've really cut back and now he's mainly nursing until we get his allergies figured out.

Hive pictures here, here and here

Yesterday we had his first allergist appointment, where they did the prick testing and put on the patches for the patch test, to be read Wednesday and Thursday. I have suspected a peanut allergy (DD2 shared celery after she licked the peanut butter off, and this was his face) and she actually re-pricked him for that since the first one was negative. Anyway, he tested positive for eggs, chicken, garlic and peanuts.

He also has some symptoms of an igG allergy: poor weight gain (8 lbs 1 oz at birth, yesterday at almost 11 months he was 7.22 kg or about 16 pounds) and constant diarrhea. DD2 has an igG response to casein but I'm doubtful that his is dairy as well, since he has had very limited exposure. He has had goat's milk a couple of times, but other than that he hasn't gotten any dairy.

So, after yesterday's results we now have several EpiPens and are awaiting the results from the patch testing.

Awww, poor baby At least you have some answers now. Sorry it had to be peanuts
Do you have any ideas what other foods he may be sensitive to? Have you considered doing IgG testing as well?

OT, but isn't he just the cutest!! And how did I forget that you had a ds the same age as Jonah?

Yes, we're getting the patch test done as well. He has them on now and gets them off tomorrow. I'll be happy when I can give him a bath; he reeks like garlic and fish right now

Do you drink milk while nursing? If so, he has been exposed to milk, so it's possible. Goat and cow milk are close enough that you can be sensitive to both. And it's the most common intolerance, so it's not out of the realm of possiblity. Another common one is gluten.

Hoping you get some answers today!

We got the patches taken off today, and it's obvious he's allergic to the adhesive of the tape It's raw and bleeding in spots around the edges. And so far it appears that of the 20 patches they tried, 5 or 6 of them are positive.

ETA: I just counted, and I see eight with a change in texture

We had his test read today and this is the full list of allergens:

igE: egg, garlic, peanuts, and cashews (apparently she read the results paper wrong on Monday, and it's cashews and not chicken)
igG: wheat, oat, soy, beef, turkey, peas, green beans, potatoes, egg, garlic, and carrots

Is there a latex allergy too? I am sensitive to tape adhesive, but I wouldn't say it's an allergy. If it's left on I will get raw and rashy. In the future if he needs tape for anything (like after a blood draw) you might want to ask for paper tape.

We've got egg, peanut, soy allergy here as well as almond & dairy sensitivities, and I am GF, so I can definitely sympathize with the feelings you're having now!

Thanks, yes I am overwhelmed! There is a dietician at the allergist's office so we spent about an hour going over all his foods and she gave me a ton of helpful information, so that really helped.

She didn't test him specifically for latex allergy but we are assuming he is allergic, since I am and so is DD2, and I guess there is a pretty strong family correlation with that one.

I forgot to add too...she said that the patch test only catches 50% of kids with a casein allergy, and that it's a pretty strong possiblity he can be allergic to that too. If eliminating all the positive tests doesn't clear up is gut issues, she suggested eliminating dairy as well.

That's a lot of foods to avoid. But I bet it's nice to have some answers. I bet you'll find lots of helpful food ideas from the ladies on here as well.

Oh, honey, I'm sorry....I know how overwhelming this is at first. My DS had severe reactions to 90% of the things we patch tested him for. And we have tested approximately 40 items so far. It makes such a world of difference though to eliminate all of those things. Atleast it looks like you can do chicken and maybe some other protein sources. That's a good thing!!
