Diaper rash.....already?

Hi, my DS is 10 days old. I think he already has a bit of diaper rash. There's a red ring surrounding his butt hole. I think I have heard of this referred to as the "target sign" but now I can't find any information on it. Is this diaper rash, and what do I do, and why would he have it so soon?

We're using cloth, mostly prefolds. For dipe solution I have these things called "baby bits" that is made of "glycerin soap made with plantain and chickweed infused olive oil", tea tree and lavender essential oils also added.

We are also going diaper free a lot and I am really careful to change him as soon as I know he's pooped, if he is wearing a diaper, so I am baffled by what is going on. It must be something in the detergent. We use a clean rinsing detergent called Tiny Bubbles and Ecover non chlorine bleach powder for disinfectant. I am only doing 1 rinse in warm - should I try an extra rinse?

Thanks!

If it's right around the anus it's a reaction to the poo, not a reaction to the dipe or anything else you are using.

Some people say this means 'food allergies.' Personally I think it's just the nature of poo. But if you really want to go down that road you could start eliminating stuff from your diet (acidic fruits, dairy, wheat, etc.)

Mambera - wow, quick reply thanks!

I do not eat wheat or dairy products right now although I did have some right after DS was born (hard to refuse food that is made for you with love, right?) or soy, for that matter. Gosh, I hope it's not eggs! Thanks for the tip, I will look into it.
