Adhd - iep ...

Does anyone have a child with ADHD who has an IEP?

I already requested an evaluation for my son, so he can get an IEP. My son has had a 504 Plan since October, 2008. My son's present school has not been cooperative with providing the necessary assistance to help my son succeed in school.

The school did not follow my son's 504 Plan, and allowed my son to fail 7th grade! Totally unacceptable .... !!!

At the meeting last week, the Resource Specialist actually watered down my son's existing 504 Plan, and removed 12 items from the 504 Plan, which really upset my son! They never even told me that my son was supposed to be at the meeting! Another good example of this school's negligence ....

My question is ... Can a child with a serious case of ADHD actually get an IEP? My son has also suffered from severe emotional trauma and has numerous medical issues.

I don't want my son to be a guinea pig, and just keep experimenting to see what works on him, as the Resource Specialist wants to do.

Were you at the meeting? You are an intergral part of the team.

Yes they can get an IEP

My daughter according to the school met the cut off for ADHD Inattentive Type.

It was considered a Specific Learning Disability and she also got a second eligibility of Speech & Language Impairment.

A change in a 504 plan does NOT require notice to the parents. That is one of the problems with a 504. An IEP has much stronger parental rights. If your child has a disability that infers with his ability to access curriculm, he is entitled to an IEP

He can get an IEP if he qualifies for one. He must have a big enough deviation between his scores on a variety of standardized tests, and his performance in the classroom. For example, if his testing shows that he's a competent speller, and he consistently fails spelling tests, that shows a deviation between aptitude and performance. This needs to show in at least one academic area. Your district will have specifics on what the difference needs to be.
