medicaid

I don't know if this makes any sense... I'm confused...

Back story:

So, I signed up for food stamps and in doing so I was automatically enrolled in medicaid because I'm pregnant. I got the paper work today and it says I "must" choose a PCP or someone will come out to my house to help me choose or one will be chosen for me. Does anyone have experience with this. I'm wondering what I should do. I'm all little paranoid about having a Dr. assigned to me that knows that I am not coming in for prenatal visits. I know UC is not illegal but I still worry about CPS. So, I guess I am asking what would be the best thing to do? or WWYD? Should I just throw it away. I was thinking maybe it would be better to pick a midwife since maybe she would understand UC and somehow that would be better than being involved with a Dr. I wish there was someway I could opt out? Should I call and try to explain that I don't medicalized prenatal care? Thanks for reading! I would love any advice, ideas, input.

by not responding, that throws up a red flag to them(they consider people like us who UC/UP to be neglectful...(or druggies)... Maybe you could "make an appt", but not go to it, or maybe go to one and not go to any more? If there is a mw who takes Medicaid(I know of only one in VA) that might be even better...she might be more understanding of UC...but you might not want to tell her your complete plans, jic...that way she could be back-up if you needed it...

just pick any ob that medicaid pays for
i PROMISE you that the ob will NEVER know about you
just NEVER contact the OB.
Take medicaids list, and pick "dr smith" tell medicaid you would like "dr smith" to be your doctor.
Then...simply do nothing, unless you want shadow care. Medicaid will NOT inform dr smith you have chosen him. So dr smith will never know you exist, period.

They just want a name, they don't insist you actually visit the doctor, and nor do they check to see if you do either.

Basically what bobandjess99 said.

I agree with the pps. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. You have to "pick a PCP" but the PCP never knows you exist. I had to go to the ER a month ago for a UTI (knew what it was, just wanted the antibodic, and didn't have $300 to pay a Dr up front) so I went and applied for Medicaid to cover the bill. Picked my PCP, and haven't heard a thing since.

My ds, who is 3, is on Medicaid. I had to pick a PCP for him, and he has never, ever in his life been to the Dr. No one ever calls or does a thing.

My sister had a UC on Medicaid. I think she chose a midwife practice and went to 2 prenatals then quit going back. She didn't have any trouble.

First, in most states (though I am not sure about yours), Medicaid requires a "PCP" (Primary Care Physician), but that PCP does not see you for your prenatal care. He/she is just there for all your "routine" care.

I have had Medicaid for multiple pgcies (in multiple states), and I have never had any problem with them regarding my lack of OB care. I just pick my PCP and don't bother with an OB.

I have never been asked to "pick an OB", and never had my lack of prenatal care come up at all.

This was my experience as well. I was on medicaid through my first pregnancy. Primary care provider is your primary Dr. I chose one, and never saw them for anything the entire time I was on medicaid. It was just a name on my ins. card.... I did get OB prenatal care, but no one from the state was paying attention to if/when i went.

Iam a midwife inMichigan and also ucing with my current pregnancy and on assistence. They ask you to pick a doctor or they just assign one to you, even in that case you can still see any doctor that participates in the medicaid program. You can also change your provider at any time. ITis your choice to see them or not I have never heard of CPS involment if you choose not to see a doctor. It is not against the law anywere to have your baby unassisted.
