paint colors

I'm ready to start redecorating my daughter's room, but I'm completely stuck. She has white furniture and it's a fairly small room so I'd like to keep things light. I know I'd like to do something with those decals you stick on the wall and I'm thinking ocean, jungle or butterfly theme. That's as far as I've gotten. I have no idea what color to paint it, where to buy the decals, etc. Spam me with ideas please!

Is your dd old enough to care and tell you what she likes best?

My SIL solved her ocean/butterfly dilemma by painting in islands for flowers for the butterflies. Unfortunately, they don't live there anymore so I can't just get a picture for you. The islands were about midway up the wall, and all the ocean creatures were below that point.

She's only 20 months so nope. if I asked her the room would probably be decorated in trucks and birds, but then she'd be up all night pointing at the walls screaming Tuck! and Bap!

OMG, it's sooo true! For my dd it'd be trains, firetrucks, and cats, and she'd have stars on her ceiling and she'd stay all day in the room like this : pointing and shouting.

Okay, so it's all on you. Maybe go with the one she seems to be the least fascinated by? Like, is she going to be imitating jungle animals all night if you paint her some monkeys?

Oh!, but that brings up a point, those wall decal thingies are super easy to change out. Add in some artwork hung at her level and you've got insta-theme without fuss.

We've gotten the wall stickers at dollar tree, craft stores have them too (when younger, dd loved taking them off the wall just as much - so you might want to err cheaper and just get some extra).

I like pale yellows and greens for kiddo's rooms - they aren't too 'gendery' or wild, and coordinate well with a lot of things. That said, dd's room here is white with a very pale blue on the ceiling.

Find the decals or cool fabric/bedspread/curtains first. Then use that to choose your paint colors. It's a lot easier this way than painting the room a color and then trying to find stuff to match it. Target has wall decals like that in the hardware section as does Home Depot and Lowes. A craft store probably would too.

etsy has decals too if you want to support a WAHM

I also like pale yellows and greens for bedrooms. Very soothing, and it goes with lots and lots of themes.

Chalkboard Paint! My girls are older, but they love it. It comes in a variety of colors, not just black & green. You can get it at home depot.
We painted one wall in the girls' room. They chose a light blue/purple color.

We went with a very soft yellow and are thrilled with it.

Light purple looks great with white furniture. Butterflies work well with purple too.

I can tell you what I have planned for my dd's room if that helps.

I found some sheer curtains from Pottery Barn at the thrift store. They're white with embroidered butterflies on them. The butterflies are pink, a celery green, lavender, soft blue, and pale yellow.

I'm planning on painting the walls pale yellow. Then making solid color panels to hang behind the sheers in celery green. I'm hoping to find a lavender bedspread that I could pair w/ gingham sheets in any of the other colors.

I love the idea of the wall decals. I drool over the ones on Etsy all the time.

Also if you are near an IKEA they have some very inexpensive curtains for kids that are really nice & colorful...we put green panels behind them too.

i would go with light/sky blue. also looks good with white furniture/trim, and wil work with oceans and butterflies.

I like a light peach color if you want to keep the room airy and bright.
