ring sling decision...

Sakura Bloom slings are gorgeous but sooooo expensive. Can I really justify £120 when a Maya Wrap sling is £47????
Decisions, decisions.
I do like the fact that you can wrap the tail of the SB around the ring.....mmmm....
FWIW, I'll only have a ring sling and the ERGO (which I love) for when she's bigger....
Any input, babywearers? I was late to slinging with DS and want to do it from Day 1 this time....

I think those are truly beautiful slings, but I would never buy one for my baby. I remember with dd how she would suck on the material and drool all over the thing. It's just not a pretty sight, and I think it would be too high maintenance for our needs. Just my 0,02 € though!

have you used a ring sling before? i have one that i dont use because the ring is very uncomfortable for me... i prefer peanut shell pouches (do you have tkmaxx in wales? i paid £12 for mine!) shame you arent in lancashire, i have a wrap, 2 peanut shell pouches and a fleece pouch,a ring sling and a bag sling (that i dont like) that you could come and play with oh and one of those upright thingys that are ok when they are a bit bigger but not so good for littlies..

I'd forgotten about the drool! I loved being able to throw my old one in the washing machine or scrunch it up in my bag...
Yep, too spendy. Decision made.

I live in Russia but have come home to Wales to birth!!

We do have TK Maxx, hadn't thought of looking there. You've got to get the sizing right with pouches though, haven't you?
Used a ring sling before and like that MIL could wear it too as we'll be staying with her when DD is born....

Everyone is different, but I think the SB is worth every penny. I bought the silk licorice color and I'm so happy with how soft and gorgeous it is. Of course, since this is my first baby, I haven't had the chance to actually use it yet, but I have tried it on and it feels great. As far as drool goes, the SB is machine washable. And reversible. And drool dries. Or you could put a burp cloth under baby's mouth. So many options. Anyway, the SB is the only sling I bought, so I thought it was money well spent. (When she's bigger I'll get a Beco.)

And as you're on baby #1, you can justify it because you'll use it for subsequent babes!

DH just spend £300 on a hands-free phone gizmo for the car but I am so hesitant to spend money on myself...grrrr! Maybe I'll change my mind.....

I love, love, love my Maya Wrap. I used it nonstop with ds, and can't wait to use it again. It's soft, washes well, and I really like fabric choices.

Oh, I know, Emma. Everything adds up and the balancing act can be overwhelming. It's hard to know what's worth spending $$$ on. A lot of times I end up skimping and then find myself having several cheap things, wishing I'd just bought something nicer at first because I end up spending the same amount of money on crap that I would have on one nice thing. I'm NOT saying that other slings are crap. (But my collection of cheap earrings definitely is.) I'm rambling... Anyway, as in all things, there is a happy medium. It sounds like the Maya is nice!!

They both look great to me. Part of me leans cotton (MayaWrap) since it's so soft, but I live in a very hot climate and so I think linen would be cooler. I have a friend with a cotton sling now, but her baby fusses every time, and we're guessing that's the heat. She gets warm very easily. So I think I may go with a linen SB. I suppose it would be soft, too? Honestly, I don't think I own any linen to go touch and check. I found some pants that are a blend and they were fairly soft and cool to the touch. Anyone have any thoughts on linen?

Violet, linen is definitely cool and comfortable. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the SBs. I almost bought a linen but then read that silk is cool in the heat and warm in the cold, so I went with silk. The SB single linen slings look great for a small baby in the heat. The double linens will offer more support for a bigger baby (6 mos+ ?). My silk feels cool to the touch, not heavy or coarse. Just smooth and soft. Again, I just don't think you can go wrong with SB. But I am admittedly a neurotic first-timer, so...

I have 2 ring slings. They both happen to be maya wraps, one was gifted to me and the other was a prize I won at a nurse in. I like that they are so easy to toss into the washing machine, and then they hang dry really quickly. Between drool and pee poo barf sweat and eventually food misshaps....it's great to have something that can take a beating.

That said, this time around, I would *love* to have a pretty sling for going out in. So if I find the right one, I might just bight the bullet and be a little spendy on pretty.

Oh I just looked at the SB site and I LOVE the new pixie collection! I think if I told my hubby I wanted a new sling for that price he'd laugh his butt off! I'm going to try though, lol! My last two slings are bright pink and girly so I'm going to pass on using them for this little guy. I have a neutral ring sling I'll use (Kissaluvs brand...wish they still made them bc I adore it) but I'd like a new one or two. I also want to get a wrap to try or a mei tai bc I've only ever used a ring sling. There are just so many to choose from!

I've had the same Maya Wrap ring sling since my first and I've never wanted a different ring sling. It's perfectly functional. Just don't look at the other ones!!

Or you could make your own! There are super-easy and super-fast ways to make wraps and ring slings, even if you're sewing-challenged (like me). I've made no-sew wraps, hemmed wraps, and one ring sling, and each of these has cost me no more than $20 (Canadian), and the most expensive one (sling) includes the cost of two heavy duty rings, and a zippered pocket in the tail. The wraps cost $3 - $7 each. They look great AND you can tailor them to your own needs (like fabric preferences, etc). Just scour fabric stores for discount or end-of-the-roll fabric, and check out these instructions:

You are so sweet...and talented! Gorgeous slings and dolls!

I would order one but the postal service here though is really bad at seizing international shipments and charging customs on them.
DH had to drive a 3 hr round trip to collect a package a friend had sent me from TX
