Decaf Coffee Recs?

Hi, I know that some decaf coffee is unhealthy and made with chemicals, etc.
I usually drink 1-2 cups of regular in the morning, not big cups just normal ones. But I'm now 5 weeks pregnant and think I might give it up this time around....
I love the taste of coffee and instead of giving it up totally would love to slowly switch to decaf. I was shopping yesterday and saw some listed as "naturally decaffienated" but it wasn't specific and seemed fishy.

Can anyone suggest some good tasting decaf coffee that isn't toxic?
I tend to like a darker flavor and love making ice coffees in the summer.
We don't have a whole foods anywhere near me, and my local store is pretty limited, but I'm open to ordering online too if need be. (yes I'm that serious about my morning cup of joe, LOL).

Thanks!

I usually look for organic, fair trade, water-processed decaf. I like the Equal Exchange brand, but also look around for local coffee roasters...some of my very favorite decafs are local. For cheaper-but-still-fair-trade (and organic), you could try Trader Joes. They have one brand of decaf that fits all that, and it's not bad at all.

It's important to me that my coffee be organic or shade-grown, though. You pay a little extra, that's true, but tropical shade coffee farms are truly one of the only effective ways of creating sustainable use farming in the rainforests. It's a very special product, and every time you drink it you know you're doing something wonderful for the planet. Typical coffee? It's grown in monoculture fields, doused with tons of chemicals/pesticides, and is a huge contributor to problems of environmental and human health.

And yeah...definitely go for the decaf at this time. When I did some research, I was surprised how much coffee/caffeine can contribute to early losses.

I am not sure what the availability is like stateside, but here Kicking Horse has become widely available here and during my PG I have been drinking it straight or using it to mix with regular (I was off caffeine for the first trimester, then half and half, and now it varies though I have cheated throughout with regular when I am out). It is available here at Safeway and other large groceries now while a few months ago it was mainly available at the organic shops and specialty stores. I get a dark brew and an espresso.
I also love Salt Spring coffee but I think that one is not widely available (could be wrong, I think they had a display at costco here once).

Both have fair trade organic water processed decaf. A bit pricey but very good. Oh- I have only purchased both in whole bean so I don't know if they are available ground.

I have read that the regular decaf (not "water processed") is probably worse for you than drinking the caffeinated due to all the chemicals they use.

It looks like you can order off the websites.

Peet's!! They have a Couple of Swiss Water processed decaf choices (I like the Mocca-Java) and it's available online. I get mine in person, where they can custom mix (I'm drinking mostly half-caff) and grind. Not sure if they can do that on-line or not.

Well, I'm a coffee-holic along with you, and I like to order from The Organic Coffee Co. online. Here's the site:

http://www.gourmet-coffee.com/organic-coffee-company/

I order their 2-lb bags whole bean & keep them in our freezer. I try to order $50 at a time for free shipping. Their prices are pretty affordable this way, and since dh drinks as much (or more!) coffee than I do, we go through it rather quickly. The turnaround time from your order to arriving at your door is usually about a week to 10 days. I think you would like the Gorilla Decaf quite a bit. It's on the darker side.

All of their decafs are water processed as opposed to chemically processed, and they start with organic beans.

I have some fabulous decaf organic coffee that is fair trade and goes toward feeding orphans and I just emailed them about their decaf process. I'd never thought about it before.

We love Peets. In fact, we joined their regular coffee sending plan thing (sorry, can't remember what it's called). I saved up credit card rewards and bought a real espresso machine, but we don't have a grinder. Peet's will grind it whichever way you want, and send it out right away so it's still pretty fresh. The other thing I love about it is you can change the frequency of receiving it whenever you want. Since I'm currently drinking a lot less (I'm just less interested since getting pregnant) we are only receiving 2 lbs every 48 days or so. Prior to pregnancy we were getting 2 lbs every month, 1 lb each of 2 different kinds (I forget which ones right now, but I like the mocha java too). We blend at home.

Sorry, I don't work for them or anything (I wish) I just like to spread the Peet's love

Walmart has their own brand of organic swiss water decaffeinated coffee (Sam's Choice). That's what I've been drinking since I moved, and lost my Whole Foods store. Even my husband doesn't mind drinking it. The Swiss Water website will give you a list of other brands and where to purchase them.

Darn! I'm usually so good about not allowing any kind of chemicals in my body pregnant or otherwise...but I totally overlooked decaf. Trying not to cringe over how many venti decaf americanos from starbucks I've had over the course of 9 months....

I'm just going to reiterate what everyone else said and look for Swiss Water Processed decaf. We have a nice local roaster that uses organic/fair trade beans.

Dean's Beans Decaf is delicious and swiss water processed.

You can find retailers that carry them on their website. Our Whole Foods carries their line.

I love Nabob Swiss water decaff. Its what I drank last time I was pregnant. I used to mix it 50/50 and then I did 75/25 decaff/caff coffee. I never did quite get down to 100% decaff as I found I needed just a little bit of normal coffee to make it taste right.

Okay, so I emailed my favorite coffee company and it is water processed decaf.

This coffee is so good, fair trade, organic and for each pound you buy it feeds an orphan for a month!
