Gender Ultrasound Photo....What Do You Think?

Hey everyone!!

So I had an ultrasound at just about 22 weeks and the tech told me she 'thinks' I am having a boy and then gave me this photo. I have NO clue what I am looking at and I have no idea how she can tell it even 'might' be a boy.

What do you all think? Definitely a boy? Possibly a girl? Not a clue what you are looking at either?

Hehe, I must be totally missing something. I just see nothing LOL. Can someone explain to me what exactly I should be looking at? I know, the arrow, but I still see nothing.

Oh, I see! The arrow is practically on top of the boy nub. But definitely looks like boy to me.

I wouldn't buy anything or paint a room based on that u/s photo

Google images has lots of u/s pics of boy/girl parts. You can go and look and see what a good clear "boy" looks like and it ain't what you posted
I can see where it may be a boy....but.......I'd still discuss girl names at least.

Thats not a very good pic at all, sorry you didnt get a better picture. I guess I can see the "boy part" but I wouldnt bank on it. lol

it looks like boy to me..

(i say this b/c i did lots of research when we decided not to find out dd's sex and then i thought i was going to be clever and watch my ultrasound video over and over.. and i thought i was gonna have a boy till i saw the girl images in the ultrasound.. basically i think boy b/c i am a cheater!)

Now when I look at it, I see three lines (I think) which looks more like a girl. But to be honest, I'm squinting and cocking my head to the side and wouldn't put money on a guess either way.


OP - what is your intuition? Do you FEEL like it's a boy?

Is the arrow pointing at one of two testicles? The two medium-grey blobs, with the arrow pointing at the one on top?

That's a terrible photo to try to decipher. I've seen a lot of ultrasounds and can usually see things clearly. I can't even tell what area of the body that is.

That's not a good gender determination photo, IMHO.

FTR upfront, I am NOT in any way any sort of medical professional at all. But, I have 2 girls myself, I have 5 nieces and nephews, and all of my very close friends are either currently, or have just had a baby in the last year, not to mention that I am currently pg with my third. Plus, one of those friends is a nurse. So I have seen a LOT of u/s gender photos and videos over the last few years, and had them very clearly explained several times.

Basically, girls are supposed to have three white lines and they are pretty bright. It's supposed to be easier to tell girl than boy, because those lines are a little more obvious. My sister, who has two boys, describes the boy images as a little turtle.

In your photo, I can't see much of anything clearly. Most u/s that I have seen are pretty clear on where the legs are, the feet, bones etc. I think I can see one bone in your image, but I can't even tell where "between the legs" area IS in your photo.

Now, having said all that....I am 24 weeks and we couldn't tell gender at my own u/s!: Out of all those kids I just mentioned, this little one is the only one who wouldn't give up the goods. It wasn't because of clarity though, it was because the little booger wouldn't open up them legs for nothing. His (intuition says boy) legs were crossed at the ankles and knees were like locked together or something. We poked my belly around, I stood up, sat up, rolled over, laid flat, they even tilted the u/s table so that I was head down at like a 30 degree angle. Nothin' doin'. So I am totally having a surprise!

And, IMHO, which means like nothing, it appears you might be too:

Haha. My intuition is all messed up. DH feels very strongly that this one is a girl. I though DD was a boy (I think because everyone was TELLING me she was a boy) and the whole time DH was saying girl. He was right. Its better I listen to him than my intuition I think LOL.

Yeah, that ultrasound photo really sucks. Im not impressed with it at all. Baby had his? butt tucked into my pelvis and was anterior. I am not even sure how the heck she managed to get any picture of the parts! FWIW, this is our NEW ultrasound machine she was using.

I wouldn't start banking on a boy with that picture either!!! I'd wait and have another later if you want to be sure what you're having!! I usually had my USs around 28 or so weeks. It might be easier to tell later!!! US techs have been known to be way off on a lot of things. With my first I had the tech say I was due in mid Dec even though my due date was mid Jan...my midwife said to just ignore her! My son was a week late!!

My boy's u/s pics were much clearer than that... what a hard picture to decipher!! FWIW every u/s with this one, his pee pee is prominent in any shot. lol. I would go for another u/s before I'd paint the nursery, etc... good luck!!!

Thanks everyone, for your input. I am not going to be going to buy boy clothes or painting the nursery blue, thats for sure. DH's mom wanted to go shopping for a bunch of boy clothes and DH told her absolutely not!

I still dont see boy parts after looking and looking at numerous boy u/s photos. The ultrasound tech showed me on the picture what I was looking at but it was dark in there and I couldnt see where she was pointing.

Oh well. Looks like I'm still on the green team?!

wow...that's a tough one! I can kinda see boy, but like the others said I wouldn't buy anything too gender specific yet.

FWIW..here is my current baby's ultrasound. I have had two so far and both say girl
