I am sooo excited. I just got a new bike and a bike trailer so I can take my son. I had been following craig's list religiously looking for a burley but even used they are sooo expensive. But finally found one - a double - for $80 and it was in incredible condition! And the first time I pulled it out to assemble my son climbed right into it; he's really excited about it, which helps. Unfortunately, my old bike was stolen so I had to bite the bullet and by a new one, which will be coming out of my personal spending money for the next 14 weeks, but I think it's worth it.
Took my son in it to the park yesterday - very short ride - but it went great. You can pack so much stuff back there- I filled the "cabin" with food and toys and books for him and the back with a picnic and my lock. On Saturday, the whole family is going to go to this nice long trail down the river and pack a picnic; it's so great to finally have something active that my partner, me, my 11 year old and the toddler can all do together.
Anyways, I was so excited I just had to share. I was starting to get a little bit stuck in a rut around my gym routine and losing motivation and this gives me something I can do anytime (weather permitting) without worrying about childcare. I'm limited with the baby to trails (I'm in NYC) and his endurance but that's fine. Then on days I have childcare I can do some longer trips like I used to. I'm hoping this helps me stay motivated to lose the last 10 pounds - and that it helps in my ongoing campaign to make over our family lifestyle to one that is more active and outdoors-y.
