Can anyone recommend a long season or sweet variety? Right now I have a type called "Sparkling" and they are sour! Also, they only produce for a month, give or take.

Any help is appreciated.

Sparkle is actually one of the sweeter varieties of strawberry plant available, which means that it's probably more likely a soil or light issue. If the plants are crowded, not well-drained, or not receiving 8+ hours of sun a day, you're risking that the plants will produce sour strawberries.

Also, how long has your strawberry patch been planted?

I've had great luck with Sparkle, too. Are you waiting until they are ripe to eat? They are sour if you eat them before they are all red in my experience.

This is our second year with them They produced really well but they are a bit crowded.

When we received them, they were really small and I put them in a smallish area of the yard. Maybe the spacing is our problem.

Thanks!

my stepfather has a bunch of tri-star from gardenerschoice.com. i just got some but they aren't even all in the ground yet. supposedly they continue to produce throughout the summer and fall (and they claim in the winter too if you bring some in the house). the one berry i had at his house was sweet, if that helps!

Thank you for that link and info. I love having these strawberries and the kids adore them as well. I would just like them for a bit longer
