how often/ for how long does your baby nurse? - Page 2

Oh my god, so last night DH put the baby down after the was fed and burped. I thought I'd just reply here, then crash into bed even though it was 8pm so I could finally get some decent rest. WELL right when I sat down to write, baby called me into her room - she had wiggled one little fist free from the swaddle and it woke her up - so I rocked her, nursed her, and then BAM - got barf ALL over me, her, the nursing pillow, etc. UGH. Had to start over...
I'm not sure what was going on but we had a frustrated baby awake till after 10, then up for nursing at 1, then again at 4:30 with just a few naps until now. UGH.
I feel like things are getting worse, sleep wise, than they were a week ago.
Nursing might be getting a little better. I do block feed for 3-4 hours on each boob, and I'm also avoiding oats now.
I've thought about kind of waking her up to help along the boob and gas, not a bad idea with the EC potty. I've been thinking about how I could use one because I can almost always tell that she's going to poop (when she wakes up), but I'm so sleepy and lazy I just let her do it in the diaper. Anyone have recoommendations for a potty or potty substitute?
I can't think of what else I wanted to say, but thanks for all of the input. Can someone tell me (again) that it will get a little easier and my baby will be sleeping, if not through the night, then at least a little longer through the early mornings SOON?! I can't take much more... can't remember a time when I didn't have bags under my eyes anymore
Forgot to add that I bought a crib wedge, thinking it would help her digestion... well, she seems to hate being layed on it, and she had totally rolled down it by 4:30 so that freaked me out!
Also, I'm thinking she might not be tolerating broccoli for some reason? That's the only thing I can think might be making her extra fussy on these days... then again, it could be coincidence.
But I have had a grouch baby all week, and today am still exhausted, and kind of dreading that she'll want to nurse soon, since she's full and will probably barf on me again, AND today we have to go to Oakland to have her hips checked. I can't even think about that. Oh and then come back in rush hour stopped traffic with a baby who hates the car seat. Why did I have a kid again?
Tonight DH and I finally get a date, but I think I'm going to be too exhausted to enjoy it. Wah wah wah...

I always tell myself, "It will be better later." That's my mantra, because at some point within the next few months it WILL be better.

We have this little potty.

It works great--DD is now fat enough to sit on it with me holding her back. I use a cloth wipe to slide under her bum when she's done to prevent drips, then lay her down and wipe/diaper. The only downside is the shock she gets if the potty is cold. I keep it next to the bed and sit her on it in the bed in the middle of the night then empty it in the morning.

Pepper, thanks, I might just give that a try! Does the cold shock your baby awake and make her go poop quicker?
I keep thinking of this stupid quote in the LLL book or Dr. Sears or something - a mom saying, "I no more count how many times a day I nurse my baby than I do times I kiss her." Well, I kiss my baby too many times to count per day, too, but if I overnurse her she pukes all over both of us, so whatever, lady! (I'm bitter today)

Jess I wish I could tell you sleeping will get better, but it might not, not for a long time. DD1 didn't sleep more than 2 hour stretches (and sometimes less) until she was over a year and not through the night until she was 2.5 years old. But yeah for the 1st year 4-6 wakings a night was normal. Bags under the eyes, normal. DD2 is sleeping through the night already. I'm not doing anything different, she is just a different kid.

1 am and then again at 4:30 am sounds great! i guess you're talking about the hourly wakings after that? that IS tough.

We have that potty too - and that what I do with it as well for 'in bed' use.
To warm it up though, I put my leg across it (with my calf resting where he would sit). So whilst I pick him up and take his nappy off - my leg has warmed it up enough to take the chill off!

I have a potty obsession lol
This one looks fun and comfy! http://www.kiddicare.com/wcsstore/Co.../KC13293_L.jpg
