End of year test?

My dd has been talking for a week now about wanting to take an end of year test- like the public school kids do. I think she wants to see how she compares, but also is just in general about how tests work, as she's never had one. I know there are some you can purchase (though I don't know from where) of this nature, though I'd rather have something on line for free if possible. Any resource you've used and been happy with for this would be appreciated.

It would be interesting to have something that would actually give me some info on where her strengths and weaknesses are compared to other kids her age- but its not stressing me either. I know a lot of parents are scared of making too big a deal of tests, making the test too big a deal, or getting too excited about wether your child is "ahead' or "behind"- I don't think its going to make much difference to how I homeschool in the long run though- I'm happy to work at dd's pace, wherever that relates to others is secondary. I do think it would boost her self esteem though, to know she's on par for most subjects though.

Anyway, any help figuring this out would be appreciated. None of the subjects we are using have an obvious answer to this "test" question, btw.

Peace,

i'm not sure about end of year testing, but i did find some free archived tests online for texas public school students. they probably aren't great to gauge where a child is at unless you actually attended a public school in texas, lol, but i did enjoy looking through the concepts being taught. my daughter hasn't taken any of the tests or anything - but she doesn't like too & we're not in TX

hth though.

ETA - if you googled it, i bet you can find more free stuff, probably for your state too.

We use Seton Testing Services for reporting every year. It is $25 per student that covers the test, grading, and shipping. You administer the test, send it back, they grade it and compare the results to the norm, and send you back the results.

Thanks for the replies! I also found this link : http://www.freehomeschooling101.com/...ent-tests.html with some ideas. Still playing with what we are going to do- good to know about Seton- I think we may do a more serious test next year.
