Which type of doctor to see now?

I could use some help figuring out our next move. DH has a SA done, and it was terrible. He did it done at a urologist. He took supplements, and it improved, but we are still not having any luck getting pregnant. I guess it is my turn to visit a doctor, but I am not sure of which type of doctor to see? An ob/gyn? an RE (which I am pretty sure my insurance does not cover)? Are there any other options? I am not even really sure what needs to be done (I mean, testing, etc...), since I don't know if the problem with TTC is me (aside from his sperm problems).

We are 1 year ttc/2.5 years NTNP, and I am 36. We had no trouble conceiving DS, who is 2.5 now. We have had perfectly timed sex for the last year.

a RE

and most insurance companies will cover a basic infertility workup.

You would be wasting time if you saw a Obgyn.

I second the RE. It matters more how things are coded rather than who performs them. For instance, infertility isn't covered at all by my insurance company but treatment for something (in my case PCOS) is covered. So, if there is an underlying condition (rather than the crappy "unexplained") you can probably have that covered to a large extent. Most plans that don't cover infertility won't cover things like IUI or IVF but any help is better than none!

Good luck!

I had kind of the opposite experiance... the midwife I saw initially ordered blood tests, when they came back I met with the doctor there - when I went to see the RE (at my request, I think it was a three month wait for the appointment) , he didn't do anything but confirm what the ob/gyn doctor already told me. Now I'm back w. The ob/gyn, who did a test to make sure my tubes were actually open.

I don't know that it matters where you start, I think different people will need different specialties, but getting an appointment with an ob/gyn is often faster.

Thanks. I made an appointment with an RE for the 21st. We don't have midwives in our state, so that is not an option. Luckily, there were plenty of appointments.
