Thank God for Prefolds!!!!!

So my poor kid had to be hospitalized for chronic constipation. After looking at an x-ray of his intestines the doctors decided that he needed a major, er... cleanse, and proceeded to dose him up with industrial strength mirilax.

We ended up there pretty much without warning after a visit to the ped. so I only had two extra diapers with me. Thus we were using the hospital stash of disposables (I had never used a disposable before...they're funky little things).

On day two they had to give him an enema...
and proceeded to put him in a disposable...
and put him back onto my lap for cuddles...
Where his butt basically exploded, and that darn diaper didn't catch any of it!!

Sooooo I sent my DH home to get our prefold stash. We put him in prefolds for the duration of the stay, and I am happy to report that although we dealt with a LOT more poop, not a single drop (sorry, TMI) escaped the diapers.

I love my prefolds!

Poor little guy! Hope he is all better. I love, love, love prefolds. Ours are on the third babe and still in good condition. They are so versatile. I'm glad yours worked for you both!

They are awesome, aren't they?

So sorry that you and DS had to go through that though. Yikes! Hope he's feeling better.

So sorry your little guy had to go through that! I've been sick since I was a baby, so I know how scary it can be to not really understand what's going on around you. I hope he's feeling better!

Awesome about the diapers, though. I'm currently planning out my stash for when my babe is born and I started thinking about back when I was a pre-teen when I thought that disposable diapers, formula, and babies being born in hospitals were just the way things were done. I'm so glad I wised up before I had kids, so that I'm going into this thing already enlightened.

Cloth diapering, breastfeeding, and home birthing all the way, baby!

He seems to be doing fine so far, and I was lucky in that the hospital allowed us an adult bed to sleep together in, so he had lots and lots of mommy time while there. I basically held him in my lap for two days, which was great except for the afore-mentioned explosive poo episode!

Seriously I have never been so impressed by the power of cloth diapers. I don't understand why hospitals don't routienely use them, but I sure am glad that they let me use mine.

Your poor little guy, glad he is doing better! I hear hospitals in Colorado use cloth diapers for the newbabies.

Glad they let you bring yours, and that they held true for the power of cloth!
