First I came down with thrush. Then, the clogged duct I had let to mastitis, which then led to an abscess which I had to have surgery to drain.
Everyone says how bad mastitis is, so I didn't really think what I had going on was out of the "ordinary", at least in terms of mastitis. After describing things to my LLL leader bff, and she consulted with a few other leaders, I was told to get to the ER pronto! They admitted me and gave me IV antibiotics, then the following morning I had an ultrasound and they found a 3x3 cm abscess. The breast surgeon came in that afternoon and made a 1/2 inch incision, then had to go down deep to get to it...once she did, greenish/yellow pus came pouring out. She didn't actually measure how much, but she said at least 20ml. Then it was packed with what looked like a flat shoe lace. She came an replaced the packing the next day (today), and sent me home with extra dressings and pain meds (thank goodness-because I need them!!). I'm not supposed to breastfeed on that side until my follow up next Tues., as she's concerned with the baby getting the milk because the infection was so severe, but my inlaws rented me a Medela Symphony so I can pump and dump to keep up my supply on that side and keep things moving so I don't get another clog. I have to say, usually my inlaws bug the crap out of me, and drive me nuts, but as soon as they knew everything going on, totally stepped up and have been really, really awesome. So has my SIL , who has 5 kids of her own, and has been keeping my older 3 so my husband could be at the hospital with me taking care of George so I could rest.
Fortunately, George was able to be in the hospital with me the whole time, and my good breast has been doing a good job of keeping up with him.
Now I just need to rest for a few days and get totally better.

Glad for inlaws stepping up and glad George could stay with you in the hospital
Feel better soon.
