Crock pots

I know there is a lot of talk about the safety of using crock pots because of the lead. I was wondering about parents of children with allergies, what you think. Do you use them? Or do you avoid them because of the toxicity issue? Or do you think it only depends on if a particular child with such issues needs to avoid it?

I use mine 2-3 times a week. I'm ignoring that there's an issue (mine is a glazed pot). I also have one with a teflon-ish interior that I use less often. So yes I use it for my food-intolerant kids. And I have a lead issue... hmmm... As Scarlett said, "I'll think about it tomorrow..."

Is the glazed pot one that is looks kind of like porcelain? The best way I can explain it

I use a glass one (Elite Gourmet), so toxicity shouldn't be a concern.

Oooooh, I didn't know there were glass crock pots. I stopped using mine (lead is not the only thing that can leach out of glazes, unfortunately, and crock pots have warm food sitting in them for hours). I miss my crock pot - off to virtually oggle glass ones!!

Here's a blog post with lots of links and comments about various slow cookers...
