Is there a certain time of the month NOT to go to a first RE visit?

I just made my first RE appointment, and they said that they will do some testing (I am not exactly sure what, but I suppose it is that test where the put dye into your tubes to see if they are blocked, and some blood tests...?). That is during my fertile period, and I may even O that day. Is that a bad thing? If we get lucky next month naturally, will the dye test screw up the egg/fertilization? Should I move my appointment to some other day?

They will do the testing at the right time of the month, so it really doesn't matter when you go, probably. For the HSG (dye test) they will probably ask you to call the office on the first day of your next cycle so they can schedule it. I am sure that is not something they'd do on your first visit. For one thing you need to take antibiotics the day before, I think. There are blood tests they need to do on a certain day of the cycle, again, if it is not that day they'll have you come in on the right day next cycle. Your DH will need to do a semen analysis, but they will probably give him a cup and make an appt for him to drop it off at the lab. If it were an appropriate time in the cycle they might do an ultrasound when you were there, but maybe not and I wouldn't try to schedule around that.

Keep the appt when it is, I'd say. You can still try the month you have the HSG. They wouldn't do it if you were pregnant. It's done before ovulation. Good luck! I know it's scary to be going down that road, but I found getting to that appointment and actually doing something to be a positive step for me.

Thanks. That is very helpful. Could you tell me what they do do on the first visit?

Mostly a whole lotta talking and asking questions. They will order blood work for day 3 & 21. An HSG will likely be booked somewhere btwn days7-12. I find the anticipation of these kind of appointments worse than the actual event.

the times I've had consults with an RE (three total, before/during TTC each of our children) the 1st visit is just getting a game plan... so it doesn't matter when in your cycle you go. Once I was ovulating that day, and ended up getting a BFP the natural way that very cycle! (felt like good luck). They will do an HSG but probably wont' schedule until the next cycle rolls around. I had two and each time scheduled right before ovulation (like a day or two) b/c with my cervix opening around that time it was much less painful. As for the other testing, it involved CD3 testing and also 7DPO testing for me. The semen analysis can be done any time
